my shifter light on my auto tranny is out and today i took the gray cover off and it was no help. my guess is that you have to take the center panel off in order to take the cover for the shifter out. i don't want to break any clips or anything so it would be nice for me to know where all those hiding clips or screw are at. thanks.

Unscrew the shifter knob. Toss it aside. The water fall that runs down from the ac vents will continue down to cup holders. where you see the line in it from it being two parts pull it towards the cup holders and wiggle it a bit. the bottom part near the cup holders will slide out towards the center console. unclip the cigarette lighter plug and toss the bottom water fall aside. then use both hands, one on each side of the shifter and pull the left side to the left, and the right to the right, and pull up. it'll pop off. your light is under that piece of plastic.

hope i described it well enough.

This might be of some help for pictures and such.

But...

Unscrew your shift knob.

Under your hvac where the cubby hole is, Grab the outside of that piece. Like on the outside where your knees can touch it when you're driving. Pull towards the arm rest. should come out pretty easy.
