View Full Version : Magnetic drain plug? yamaha16bw 03-09-2005, 06:06 PM I did a search to try and find some info on this with no luck. I was wondering if a Magnetic drain bolt would do any good? i have raced Motocross for a few years and ive always used Magnetic drain plugs. You wouldnt belive some of the crap that thing can trap! I was just thinking would it have the same effect on a car which has an oil filter? Or perhaps trap stuff you would want the filter to get? Thanks for any help!!! reagulator 03-09-2005, 06:19 PM the reason that you use magnetic drain plugs on a motorcycle is to catch metal filings from the transmission. In a motorcycle you use the same oil for BOTH the engine and transmission. On a car it has two different oil pans for the engine and transmission. B2FiNiTY 03-10-2005, 02:19 AM There is no harm in putting a magnetic drain plug in the oil as well as transmission. I have magnetic drain plugs in on my oil pan and tranny. This is not on a scion though. LuminicsBulbs 03-11-2005, 04:10 PM I feel that you would benefit from getting one especially for the cheap price. I believe they run about $25-$30 I think its a good investment. Its not bad if you dont get one but at the same time it could help if you do get one. There are some on the pan but then they collect there if you can get them all to the plug then when the plug is pulled you could just whipe it off and no shavings in the pan anymore.
