Default DRLs

Any ideas on how I can make my parking lights as DRLs?

they come on when you turn on the interior lights,

I guess I could drive around with my interior lights on... lol

You have daytime running lights? You must not be in the States...

I considered doing DRLs for my Pathfinder, but wanted them to turn off when the lights came on and I never could figure out how to do it...

If anyone figured out how to hook up DRL on the Non-Canada models, I would be really interested! I know most people don't care for them, but I think they help a good deal with accident reduction.

If all you're looking for are lights that are on whether your headlights are on or not, it's pretty easy. It's just a matter of getting 12V lights (LEDs are popular), tapping a power source that's on whenever the car is on (ie - radio), and mounting the lights where you want them.

If you go online, you can probably find weatherproof LED strips for under $10. Otherwise any autoparts store will have them for $15-$30. That's if you want to mount the DRLs on the front of your car. Obviously wouldn't have to be waterproof if you put them in your windshield.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info mighty p. I would actually like to run the factory DRL like the tC would have in Canada.

No problem. Doing it the right way is going to be much more expensive. Depending on how Scion designed the DRLs, you may have to get a whole different computer. I'm really not sure.

You could probably make it work if you're willing to experiment a bit. You can rewire the headlight power to be always on (bypass the switch). Or you could add a switch so you can always leave your lights on and they just automatically turn off when you turn the car off.

Personally, I like the LED DRL look. Honda CR-Z has them.

When I mentioned to my wife that someone was asking how to add DRLs, she told me she'd like them added to her Escape, so I'll get the stuff and do a quick DIY. I may do it on my tC too, just to see if I like it.

Since no one else has answered your question, I will (sorta). I don't know about Canada, but there is no requirement for DRLs in the US. Insurance companies often give you a discount if you have them, but nothing is required.

I picked up a set of high power LEDs today. Spent a little more than I wanted, but they fit in the upper grille perfectly. Now I just have to take the time to pull everything apart to get them installed.

Default Installed!

I got the DRLs installed...kinda. I actually have 2 questions for you folks.

1. Anyone know of a good 12V power source in the engine compartment that's on when the car is on and off when the car is off?

2. What do you think? This spot is my favorite. You like em? Hate? Move em?

Obviously I was able to get power to the lights, but I was using the fuse box in the engine bay and all the fuses I tried had constant power (car was completely off for the pics). I don't have a wiring diagram so I don't know which of the many wires I want.
