This weekend I am working on replacing the speakers in the back of my tC2. I already have MDF set aside to build a bracket if needed. Has anyone installed aftermarket speakers in the rear of the tC2? Did it require a special bracket or did you simply drill holes? Any help would be awesome.

For anyone looking to replace rear speakers.......

I replaced my Factory Rear speakers this weekend. Make sure you have a bracket or some plan to fabricate a bracket. The Factory speaker is about a 6 1/2" speaker with 3 tabs around the outside. You must buy/make a bracket to mount a speaker in the location. There is one bolt behind the 1" square that has the cup holder pictures on it. Make sure to pry from the top of that square. The rear seat bottom has to also be removed to remove the rear panels. There is a clip under each side of the rear seat. The trim along the door sills, have to be removed also. Here are some pictures to explain what I mean.

Just use front speakers and no rears for true SQ

Thanks niner, this will help a lot of people out. I have installed those same speakers in other cars, they sound damn good for the price. How's it sound in the Tc? Was it noticeable? The stockers seem weak imo..

Sounds so much better in the rear, need to save up to buy some speakers for the front now.

These should work with most speakers
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4974_Scosche-SAT6.html

And also
has anyone taken the front door apart? Just wondering what the crossovers look like.

The crossover in the front door is built into the tweeter, and that is mounted in the door panel. The signal runs to the tweeter first, and then to the 3.5" mid driver in the door. This is paticularly annoying because if you disconnected the tweeter and wanted to use a replacement 3.5" coaxial, you'ld have no signal at the 3.5" speaker connector. The 3.5 is the only speaker in the car with a standard mounting system, so it was kinda annoying to find this out. I ended up putting in a 4" component set, and replacing the bottom 6x9 with an 8" woofer.

Thanks NickF127, that piece will make replacing my rears alot easier. I'm probably still going to build a small enclosure for the rear speakers to get the best response from them. While I keep them turned down compared to the front, the passengers are more in line with the sound from the rear and I want their listening experience to be good, too.

Thanks for the info jericho! Do you have any pictures from the install? Also, how'd you mount your speakers?

I do have some pictures of the installation in the doors, but I missed a few key shots when I was last working on the system and I don't really want to pull the doors panels off right now. I'll start a new thread when I get all of the pics done later. I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I have to.

I had to fabricate mounts for both the 4" and 8" drivers. I used layers of mdf, copying the mounting points for the factory speakers. For the tweeter I was able to press the aftermarket one into the factory location in the door panel.

For those who have replaced the rear speakers. There looks like plenty of room for a 6x9. Yes,no? I was thinking of going with a 6.5" mid bass driver in the doors and a decent quality 3-way 6x9 in back.

You could fit a small family behind the rear quarter panels! Go for it, I always wanted to do something like that in my '07 but already had a set of 6.5" components.

Goose, I'm running Hertz energy in the rears, definitely want t upgrade the fronts to hertz, did you take photos of them installed in your car, would really like to see them if you did... Bet they sound amazing.

Ninerbud, very nice job installing the rears! Clean and great job making the mounting brackets!

I ordered the Scosche Sat-6 and they worked to install the 6.5 speakers I had (alpine type r components) into the rear.

Nice! The Type R components I have sound just amazing. I had to turn the head unit to fade more to the front than the rear because they were just way too loud. I'm running them off of an Alpine MRP-F240. The amp produces 60W x 4 Channels or 100W x 2 Channels. It is running in bridge mode sending 100W to each pair of components. In the trunk I have 2 Kicker Comps with an Alpine MRP-500. I'm going about ordering a Sundown SA-12 or an Alpine Type R 12 (can't decide which yet) and I'm gonna just run a single sub. Fronts are stock. Head unit is a Pioneer MVH-P4400BH. If you're looking for a good spot to hide the crossovers, once you get the rear panel off, on the inside of the panel is like a storage bin of some sorts. I threw my crossovers in there. Works perfectly fine and they do not rattle. I mounted my tweeters in the back of the a-pillar about 3 inches down from the triangle. I have pictures of the install I will upload...

My plan is to ultimately get a 3-way system for the front. I think I will run it off the stock amp as it seems to be rock solid so far.

Quick question guys... How do I take off the front and rear side panels to get to the speakers?
Also can I just replace the front 6x9s and keep the stock tweeter and 3x5s? Thanks!

Rear side-panel removal is pretty easy. right near the cupholder is a little thing with some "drinks" or something pictured, get a flathead screwdriver and pop that piece open. Then there should be a big screw in there (you will need a wrench or socket to get it out, I believe its 10mm).

AFter you get that out, just pull the panel out from the ends and it should come right off

not too sure about the fronts though.

I'll confirm the Scosche Sat-6 work with the Alpine R 6.5 coax speakers for the rear. Use the ring that comes with the Alpines, screw it to the adapter, the screw the speakers to the alpine ring and all set. Pretty decent although when I put the rear panels on the car the speakers seemed really close to the interior panel but I don't think it's touching it. I used mdf for my car which I dynomatted and I think I like it better than the Scosche but I will say the Scosche was much EASIER to do, fast and work well.

Anyone know if the JBL GTO628 6.5-Inch 2-Way speakers will fit the Scosche Sat-6_at the rear? I'm getting ready to order it.
Thanks guys...

SAT6 and SAT69 adapters work well, however be sure to dynamat these things well because if you decide to really crank your system they may rattle.
