Default Carnage

So, the other night I was driving home around 8 o'clock and it was pouring down rain. Just around the corner from my house this certain area has a tendency to flood a little bit. We're talking no more than about 2-3" inches of water. This particular time I was extremely tired and I really didn't even think twice about driving through this relatively small puddle. (Yes, I know I'm a dumb ___) I was going about 15 mph and the puddle was probably about 2" deep. I just about got through it when the car just shut off. I knew better than to try and start it, so I just pushed it to my house. I pulled the plugs and got my friend to try and see any water in the cylinders, but there was nothing. I also pulled the intake off and let it dry out overnight.

The next day I put everything back on the car, and figured I would give the car a try. Well, it turned over but it made a sort of ticking noise like it had a couple bent valves, but it wasn't loud enough be a rod knock. I gave up and had it towed to the garage around the corner that I knew did good motor work. They guy didn't tell me exactly what it was other than just saying that I needed a new motor. The insurance adjuster agreed it seemed that we were on our way.

I checked in with the shop the next day and found out that when they pulled the car into the garage to start pulling the motor, the motor that was still in the car locked up and both rods in cylinders 1 & 4 broke and put 3 holes in the block. (Refer to pictures) This then caused the torque converter in the tranny to break off and wreck the entire inside of the transmission. The shop called the insurance adjuster and they agreed to pay for a whole new transmission as well.

This whole thing has been nothing but a huge headache, so I'm just hoping that nothing else will go wrong.

Please, no posts telling me how much of a dumb ___ I am. Trust me, I am fully aware. haha. and the intake is coming off and a short ram is going on as soon as I get the car back.

Holy ____, dude! That's insane. Sorry to see it, but at least your insurance company is taking care of you. Could be a lot worse.

yeah, it could be a lot worse. Nationwide has seriously been amazing through all of this. The guy at the shop said that the adjuster was hands down the best that he has ever dealt with.

See, that's what amazes me though. The water was literally about 2" deep and I was in it for about ~1 second. Even when I took the intake off, which was almost immediately, the filter was barely wet and there wasn't that much water in the intake pipe or manifold either.

But you got to remember this, if you have an ounce of water in an engine water does not compress, and clearances in an engine are so stringent there is no room for error
