Smile Where To Get Brake Work Done???

I have typically used Midas but I hate how long it takes for them to do anything. Of the possible places nearby are Monro and Midas. I'm currently in the Pittsburgh area. I am having a loud squealing noise from the front tires I think but only when I brake at a certain power. From google, I read that brake squeal is from brake pad vibration. So maybe at a certain power, I hit a certain frequency and they make noise?

Anyways, give me recommendations of where to get brakes done even if they aren't either Midas or Monro. Thanks!

If you have basic tools and a parking lot/driveway to do it, do them yourself and save some money. Buy some new pads, and either take the rotors to get turned or replace them. Its a lot easier than you might think, why pay some guy who doesn't care about your car a bunch of hard earned cash to do something you can do your self with a little time and a few hand tools? The only thing I need someone else to do on my tc and xd are tires( expensive machine needed) and alignment(another expensive machine needed). I'm sure there's a how to on here in the tech section. Just my 2 cents.

For everyone saying to do it myself, I probably would if I didn't have to take off the tires. I usually do most of the car work myself: air filter change, car wash, vacuum, wipers, fluids, spark plug replacement, sound system, etc. But it sucks taking off the tires and messing with the brakes. Last time I think Midas charged me $219 for an 1 axel of brakes.

Is Midas bad? I was planning on going there only because they did the brakes before and they have some warranty or something for them.

I bought 4 new pads and 4 new rotors for $92 at Autozone. But if you have the money I don't see why not...

Dezod has a great special on a pad/rotor package. Get that and do it yourself.

About half is labor charges. I seem to get them replaced every 2-3 years and I'm not sure if that is normal. I got almost 95,000 miles though so maybe that is why.

I'm pretty sure I could do it myself but I would need to use the jack and do 1 tire at a time. Each tire would probably take me 30 minutes because I would go slow and make sure I didn't mess up. I remember I did the spark plugs in about 90 minutes because I didn't want to scratch the inside of my engine lol.

If I had a lift that could lift half the car front or back, I might try it myself. If I did it myself though, I'd replace the rotors with performance rotors and possibly a Brembo Kit.

Is it possible to get rotor and pads and have someone install them like Midas? I got some sick wide +1 tires online and had Midas install them for $71 last year. Far better than NTB that installed their own tires for almost $900 back around 2007.

I got all the tools in the world. I just don't want to mess it up. Plus I hate jacking the car up. If there were scion members near me I'd pay them to do it and show me how lol. Plus I read online the How To Change Brakes and it is like 10 steps. There is one step where you have to reset the piston somewhere. I'd probably get frustrated and take it to the shop anyways lol.

With tires, sucky ones at that. The tires I'm rolling on now are wide and sick. Plus they cost like 2/3s a shop would pay if they even had them available. Wide tires makes the Scion look better.

If you have a decent sized C clamp, resetting the piston is super easy.

Reseting the piston would be the easiest part. lol All you do is take a c-clamp and clamp the piston in the caliper till it can't go back any further.
Oh and don't let the caplier hang..I used bungie cords and wrapped it and hooked it up against the springs.

to change rotors add a 17mm wrench or socket to the list and just take the bracket off, its literally one of the easiest things to do.

What part of PA? I'm in the Cranberry area. I'd be willing to have someone here do it since they know more about Scion's than most. It would also help me learn how to do it next time haha.

It seems easy there but I will be stuck doing it outside of the parking lot and have to lift 1 tire at a time. So many ways for me to mess up and break something lol. I used to do brakes in hs on brake drums. I can see how you can do it from the pictures on the link but I'd rather have someone else do them lol.
