I just washed my babay after installing the new TRD swaybar (never pay a dealer to do that...it's too easy!)

I've been using the Mr Clean Autro Dry thing for over a year now on my old WRX and now my tC. I'll never go back to hand drying...no way.

The whole system costs under $19 and comes with everything you need to get started, basically, it looks sorta like a gun and attaches to the end of your hose. You have three jet heads: Regular rinse water, soapy water and filtered water.

The catch is that you have to use their special soap and replace the filter periodically but it comes out to around $2-$3/wash... that's cheap!

I rinse my car down, then cover it with the soapy water and then use a sponge to wash her down. I fill a bucket full of water and use some of the Mr Clean soap. the key is to always wash on a surface full of the soapy water. keep your sponge rinsed often and keep your car wet.

then when I'm done I rinse her off and then use the Filtered water for the final rinse. Take your time here and make sure you rinse every part off well with this water. there's no minerals in the water so when it dries there's no spots! It's not 100% perfect but it's so damn close and easy I really like it.

They claim that the filters last 10 washes but that's crap. I replace mine after every 3-4 or else I get spots. I guess it depends on how bad your water is in your town.

But it's so nice not having to dry plus there's less of a chance of getting swirls if you're not hand drying.

Just my 2 cents fellas...try it out...it's nice!

Every 2 weeks? Crazy talk. Once a month is enough for me :). Unless of course it snows and my car is more white than FM because of the salt.

I wash my car every 3 to 4 days... that's pushing it...

but then again, I've had my car for less than a month and I enjoy doing it so when I'm bored, I wash it... and plus, black is hard to maintain so lol

I might try this Mr. Clean

I wash once a week.

I've used Mr. Clean, and it sucks on a black car!

And, you should ALWAYS wash your car yourself. You think those carwash employees give a crap about your car? They'll never treat it as nice as you would.

True, My car is FM and so the dirst shows pretty easily.

I was about once a week. I love the car and want it to look good so...

No way is soemone else doing it. THE DON is right...those employees are just rushing through to get to the next one.

The key to the Mr Clean thingy is to replace the filter often and rinse really really well with the filtered water.

i used a similar product many years ago, the de-ionizer or something. they're all the same, you're just rinsing with de-ionized water so when it dries there's nothing to leave spots.

Mr. Clean works great on my black cherry tC. Remember to rinse all the soap off with the regular water, then use the filtered (demineralized, since the minerals in the water are what leave spots) water to rinse off the regular water.

Here in vegas this time of year is the worst especially we got so much rain..... Mullberry (typo i think) well these trees produce so much pollen that i washed my car twice almost 3 times last week .... I washed my car at a washer came home 2 hours later had this fine coat of yellow pollen all over my car i said crap i thought i drove through something or what not didnt really know it was pollen. 2 days later washed it again same thing happened . It sucks so im not gonna wash it until all these trees are done blooming even though my car looks so dirty.

Btw if people dont know in Las Vegas its against the law to wash ur car at home. I guess its about wasting water and having all the run off from car washes go in the water system but i think its crap that u cant even wash at home.

I don't think so. They claim the soap is part of the spotless thing I think. I tried the Mr. Clean and it didn't work that well. I couldn't get the thing to stop leaking and I still got spots with a brand new filter. Oh well. I'm sticking with regular washing.

For only 7 bucks I tried it. It didn't do sh*t!

All you people that are calling us crazy for washing out cars every week or less don't live in sunshine states, so I can understand why you guys are washing it once a month. It'd be pointless to wash your car and then dry it off so it can get rained and snowed on daily.

I can't even go 2 weeks without washing my car, I washed it a couple days ago for the first time in 2 weeks, all the bugs and tar baked onto the paint, it took a lot of elbow grease and bug and tar remover to get all that crap off. Not to mention the mud all over the car, it looked like a rally car. My last car, a corolla S, had crap stuck all over the front bumper, hood, and side mirrors, and it would NOT come off, because I let that car go weeks maybe even a couple months without washing it several times.. There was even paint overspray on there, that could have come off had I washed it when I first noticed it. Washing your car is underrated ok :p

I used the MC auto dry for awhile, but I got really tired of paying 10 bucks every time I had to get a new filter and soap...tiny bottles of soap...and on a good set of washes my filters only lasted two or three times...I just got really tired of paying that much...went back to handdrying...

All I can say is if you have even remotely hard water those filters that are SUPPOSED to last for about 10 washes only last about 3. it gets very expensive , their soap is way pricey too , I tried with another sopa and it worked but very halfassedly. Not much worse than normal tho , best 20 I wasted , not I hate the crap.

Dude, I already mentioned the fact that the filters only last 3 washes...even still at $5 each, washes only cost about $2-$3 each. Not bad compared to many other options.

As for the soap, they tell you NOT to use other soaps, they can clog the unit, plus the Mr. Clean soap helps the spot-free process. may be why some folks were not having good luck.

Oh well....works great for me! That's all that matters!

Bought the Mr. Clean Pro Series this evening. I will wash it by this weekend. As far as I can tell, the only differences to the main unit are the addition of a quick release water supply and a jet spray function (for tires and stubborn junk) It comes with a nice case, filter, soap, and a washing mitt. I will post here again when I use it.

I don't really care for it. I like using the water filter part but other than that it stinks IMO. I use micofiber towels to wash and it didn't take long for my towel to take on a very nasty look that didn't rinse out. So whatever was sticking to the towel was also rubbing on the car. My wife washed that towel twice and it still looks just as dirty and left a film in the washing machine tub. The soap gets everywhere. I constantly had to rerinse. The filtered water comes out in such a fine mist the car is practically dry by the time I get around it.

But the filtered water doesn't need any further operation, as long as you make sure to give the car a good rinsing to get the unfiltered water off. I use a lamb mitt and make sure to give it a cleaning frequently to clean the dirt off. No swirl marks, no water marks.

Listen people, it's a Chinese made piece of crap. I've used one, they lock you into buying their own soap, etc for it and it's not worth it. Get a bucket of water, some quality soap and a nice mit and do it the old fashioned way. Any spots will come out when you wax.

Spots don't always come off when you wax. Many years ago I had a Honda CRX that I babied. It dried one day with spots. The wax didn't get them off completely and I could never get rid of them after that. I even had the car buffed and they were still there. Maybe waxes have gotten better since then but I still prefer to make sure I start with a spotless car.

Well I have used the pro series a few times now and I do like it. It is a little more powerful. The 'Jet Spray' is nice on the bugs. It's just a single stream, very powerful. It comes with a quick release, but it is tempermental and not recommended. The carrying case is really nice for those of us who have to travel to a hose (apartments and such) It's overall a good product. Just change that filter every 5 washes to expect no spots.

I would still use a cloth on the glass, but I always clean my glass at the same time, after washing. There should be no spots on the glass, but I still clean and usually rain-x every time anyway.

I would also recommend MC, especially for hard water. The trick to saving a little money using it is not buying the MC soap. Buy one of those Costco gallon sized car wash liquids. Use a bucket filled with the soap and water, a mit or MF towel to wash the vehicle (don't put the soap in the MC). Rinse off with regular water, then final rinse it with MC filtered water. The MC is nice when you just want to wash and go. 2cents.

I just got the pro series autodry as a gift from some friends cause they know what a nut I am washing my car every week. I don't think it's that bad.. I remember reading about some guy taking his car to an autowash every day.. insano

anyways, i read the manual last night and the pro series has it's own drainage system in the case so you don't have to let it dry first.. nice.. haha

this may be kinda dumb, but can somebody explain to me what hard water (or soft water?) is?

engifineer
05-25-2005, 05:33 PM
Hard water has a lot of minerals in it such as calcium, magnesium, dissolved salts, etc. It spots even more than softer water does. The MC system filters out the minerals on the spot free setting. I agree, this is a great product! The filters dont last as long as they say, but I can wash with no drying and have no spots.. definitely a good buy.

How do you find out if you have hard or soft water?

rjflyn
05-25-2005, 06:05 PM
Ok some tips for a clean car. First if you are washing it frequently- ie more often than monthly one should have a high quality wax job applied to protect the paint. Most wax jobs will last a year if you only wash monthly or so. The more you wash the more often you need to wax. It also makes it easier to clean. Bug and tar remover also removes your wax job.

Another tip if you live where there alot of bugs and drive at night is PAM spray. A light coating on the front bumper, grill and leading edge of the hood and the area above the windshield makes the crud come off much easier. Just make sure it doesnt take your wax off- also test on an area hidden to make sure it wont effect your paint.

If you spray water on your car and let it dry, and there is white spots left on the car, then you have hard water. Those white spots are calcium and mineral deposits. Check out www.Autopia.org for some great info.
