Default Alarm Help!!

Alright guys, this is probably gonna sound like a noob question, but I just have no idea about alarm systems and I've been searching for hours for this. I have a 2006 tc R.S. that I bought a year ago, and I have this problem where the alarm randomly goes off, I do not have a FOB, so I am trying to figure out if I should call my salesman and get one or if I have an aftermarket alarm in my car. I have the red light on the left side of the steering wheel but it DOES NOT say Security, I'm not sure if it is aftermarket or factory. If it is aftermarket, where do I find the brand and model.

Any help would be apreciated guys

thanks

This is always fun. The red light might be a hybrid valet switch/ status light if its an aftermarket piece. If it sticks out and doesn't say security, it probably is. If I recall the stock one is flat and say security. Here's the fun part! Depending on who did the install this will be very easy or very difficult. Vacuum your floors and get a small flash light. Get on your back and start looking around under the dash for a black box about the size of a pack of 3x5 or 5x7 index cards. I'd suggest trying to follow the wires that connect to the security light with your eyes and see where it goes. Most people installing alarms don't take time to hide the central control modules so this should be pretty easy. Find the box and look for stickers on it that would give you a model number, sometimes the numbers are stamped into the black plastic and might not be easy to read depending on the orientation of the brain. If this aftermarket alarm had a remote start option that was installed and worked you might also find another small box, which should also be connected to the central alarm module. You might also pull out the glove box and check back there too. Just remember to disengage the little piston on the right side of the glove box before trying to pull it out.
Summary: Get on your back and take a look around OR pay someone else to figure it out for you.

Thanks! I'm gonna take a look underneath tomorrow. I'm thinking it is an aftermarket because of the fact there is a button hanging under the dash that arms it (my car was a repo) so I'll have to try and find it. I'm still going to probably attempt to get a fob from the dealer so I can have the lock unlock feature unless you think it might be wired into the alarm

A factory fob? LIke the one that is built into the key? You could get that at the dealer and have it programmed to the car but you'll still have the aftermarket alarm in there.
If you are trying to get a fob for the aftermarket alarm I doubt the dealer will be able to help you. Figure out what you're working with first and then go from there.
