Default Amp issue. advice?

So here's the setup

2x-Infinity 6022i door speakers
2x infintiy tweeters 103t

1 4channel ROCK FOS amp (punch level i believe)

PSl110- 10 inch rock fos subwoofer.

When i drive for more than 1 1/2 hour the amp tends to protect and turn off because its getting too hot. Im curious. if i got a mono amp just for the sub. and ran my door speakers on the 4 channel (add the rears to it as well) would that be effective or a waste of money. i feel as the subwoofer is really pushing the amp, so if i have it seperated it will keep the temp down. Also can you run two amps of one power cable coming from the engine? and if so how? there is no way im crimping that ____.

that would be more affective. i always recomend running speakers on separate amp than subs. and yes you can. you would just need a distribution block for the power wire to go into and then run a 2 wires off of it...one to one amp and one to the other

before you go out and spend any money, you need to take a long hard look at your install and make sure you didn't do anything wrong. make sure you have your speakers hooked up correctly and aren't trying to run the amp at an improper impedance. then check all your wiring, make sure there aren't any kinks in the power wire and your grounds are solid. also, if you have the gain cranked, turn it down and see if it fixes the problem. in my experience, most car audio issues come from improper installation and not faulty equipment.

i am going to do that random. i have had some issues with power wire. also my subwoofer still pops when the amp is turned on. when i come home in the summer. im going to take it all apart. maybe run new wires. i will cehck the gain. im pretty sure it should be up a bit. but im going to turn it down. that way the rear doors that are connected to the HU can be heard as well

Two amps will always work better but before you start adding equipment I've got some questions;

What is the exact model of amp? or How large is the fuse on it?

What gauge power wire did you run?

Is the sub single or dual voice coil?

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LMzuZrU...e-PL1-110.html

tahts the sub

http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKFORD-FOSGATE...#ht_973wt_1141

thats the amp.

i think this is very simliar to my current wiring kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/BULLZ-AUDIO-EPAK...ht_3845wt_1141

the amp is placed. if u lift up that false floor cover you have the foam try with all the compartments. i wedged the subwoofer into tone of the larger openings. had to cut a little to make it fit. but its snug there. then the floor cover sits right on top.

^^^that'll definately be one factor to it being overheated since it can't get any air movement under there

Yea what he said! I have mine placed under my rear seats. At least there open air movement. You don't want stagnant air. Try fitting it under the rear seat or maybe even under the front seats?

I will try. But I think its too big to go under the rear and the front ppl put there feet under there at times.

if anything, (not sure it would help any) there are some that hook up computer fans for their amps if they stick in enclosed areas like that. they may help some but nto sure since not really 'fresh' air. check 12voltenws.com's forum or caraudioforums.com if you end up trying to go that route w/ the computer fans

Thanks goose! im gonna try this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_3712wt_907

im thnking i can just cut the bay area out and mount it somehow. i think as long as it gets som air flow it should be ok. if it don't work i can just return it. but it seems a simpler fix than moving the amp and having to re wire the car again.

dude, just do it right man. a little elbow grease is gonna keep your equipment from burning up. those fans might help a little but it's just a band aid.

^^ i actually agree. im away at college till the 15th of may. so i'm hoping it will at least cover for a bit. i do have to move it though. maybe build a bracket on the side of the spare wheel and lodge it there

Blowing hot air around with fans won't do much. You need to get fresh air in there to cool the amp. I cut some of the plastic cover away underneath the seat to fit the amp had to trim the under side of the seat foam as well but oh well lol. One thing that might work if your amp is where I am picturing it in my head, is take a few fans at the opening of the rear seat to funnel fresh air into the amp spot.

How wide is your amp? Have to thought about building a small platform to mount directly under the seat not on the floor where feet would go?

Also maybe you could mount the amp in the trunk on the side walls?

Can you get a pic for us?

Like everyone else said you need to get some air flow around the amp. You're running it at a 2-ohm load with no ventalation, it's doing eactly what it should, turning off to prevent a meltdown. Pull the foam out of there and add some fans to draw fresh air to the amp. That being said adding a second mono amp will probably let you run longer before the amps turn off but they still will without the ventalation, it will make your sound a bit cleaner though.
