Default Clutch Install Question

Hey guys i have a quick question i know this guy that does work on a lot of 80s Toyota pickups. I asked him if he could put in my clutch and if i could help cuz i want to learn and i think its fun doing new stuff to my car.

I just want to know if you guys think ill be safe going with this guy i think he knows a lot but all of them old trucks are all Rear Wheel Drive.

I think he knows what he is doing but im not sure he works on FWD cars
He quoted me 200.00 and ill be there helping or learning is that a good price?

200.00 for an install? Wow for my tC, it cost me 800.00 for the install. Sounds way to shady to me. You wont find a good place for 200.00

Just find a DYI and do it yourself. It's not that hard to do.

if the guy you know has done them before, you and him can crank it out in a day. just follow a DIY and you'll be fine. i started off by following a DIY, but then just went at it, got it out and put it back without doing the DIY anymore except for the torque amounts.

DIY's are very nice and comprehensive , just that sometimes we dont always have as much time nor tools to dedicate ourselves to such a project. i had my clutch replaced for $500 even. $200 is a STEAL. if you are confident in him go for it. the thing is too if he's done one then he's BASICALLY done them all.

I beg to differ...I charge 200 for most scions, however if i have to remove a turbo or charge pipes i will charge a kit install fee aswell.

anywho the tc is much different than any rearwheel drive transmission iv delt with, its much much harder to replace a clutch on the tc than a rear wheel drive car iv delt with so far. your best bet is to get someone who has done it on a fwd car, they will have a much better idea of whats going on.

Yeah I would like to try and install myself to save some money but I'm just a little scared I won't be able to do it. I'm pretty good at doing just about anything but I just haven't ever done it so.

If you trust him, it's worth it.

I replaced mine last month.

For a new clutch and flywheel

Toyota: $1600
Mechanics: $500-$700 with my parts, $800-$1000 using theirs.

Ultimately, a buddy and I ordered a new one on eBay, and dug into it. Took about 9 hours total over a week. We spent a couple days finding bastard tools like a 17mm line wrench. Went Stage 2 and total cost was around $550.

At the same time, if it's broken or the car doesn't start when everything is back together, if a dealer or mechanic did it it's their problem.
