I wanted to get some opinions on which are better. I curently have Tein lowering springs on stock struts and they had enough. So for now I'm just going to replaced the struts and next time ill buy coilovers....what ya think???

 

i am currently taking my Tokico off . I hate it. After 10k miles. My car is bouncy as hell.
I am replacing them with TRD.
Tokico is same height as stock. TRD is much shorter and harder to to install with just hand tools. I had to buy electrical impacted wrench after install 1 strut.

 

Any strut/Coilover can be installed with hand tools. All you need is a breaker bar.

i install the the front 2 with hand tool. but it took too much time to compress the spring for the trd strut. My cheap ebay compressor have to tighten down to 100% for the top mount to fit.
There were no more gap between the 2 clamps.
Harbor Freight coupon FTW!!! got the impact wrench for $40.
i was stupid and forgot to install the rubber circle thing in my trd strut. i have to take the strut off again.

 

IIRC, Tokico makes the TRD shocks.

 

really? definitely not re-badged. size and ride quality is different.

 

Nothing valving couldn't solve.

Progress makes TRDs coils and sways. Their production parts are different than their TRD offerings.

i would recommend TRD for ride quality. Few member on SL like Tokico. Ack154 have Tokico. Not many people have Koni or KYB. I heard Koni is PITA to install. it is not direct replacement.
I think TRD struts only comes in 4. You can't buy each one by themselves. Tokico can be purchase 1 by 1.

 

KYB is trash. Not a fan from personal experience on my Lexus back in the day.

 

So far I guess TRD is the way to go.....

 

what happened to the KYB's? what makes them trash? i was looking at KYB and would love more personal experience with them.

 

I had a set of KYB on my IS300 and they crapped out within 6 months on a 1.25" drop and KYB wanted nothing at all to do with replacing or repairing them.

 

wow, thanks paul for that info! That helps me, I'm crossing them off the list. One instance of a lack of customer support with a product is one too many for me.

 

I have the Koni Yellows for the front and rear on tein H techs. Best shocks for the tC IMHO. You can adjust the dampers which is the best part. I had a friend install it and it takes effort. Once you have them in your car will handle lots better and youll like driving more often
