What did you do to fix all your rattles?
www.secondskinaudio.com.
I've performed some minor sound dampening on my xB. I've dampened the roof and front doors. A little went in the hatch, too. You have to pinpoint what's making the rattle and take care of it. There's ways of doing so, but it depends on what's happening. If it's plastic on plastic, you can rough up the surface that's touching, then apply a little silicone. Let the silicone completely dry, and reapply. The silicone acts as a buffer of sorts.
My Q45 is quiet, but could be quieter. Most of it's interior parts have little foam pieces where parts contact each other.

When I installed my Coilovers, it reduced my rattling 90%. I'm not saying go out and spend a G on coilovers just to get rid of the rattles
.. but it did help, and now she looks MUCH better, handles better, can't go over speedbumps.. but hey it doesn't rattle anymore!!!!... (They are adjusted to just 5 ticks away from soft btw...) I will say with all the rattling in the car combined with my old tires, and springs.. I was ready to stop paying on the car it bothered me that much. I agree, it's a cheap car, but there are plenty of cheap cars with MUCH higher quality interiors. Needless to say this was my first scion.. and definitely my last...
FWIW -- outside of an occasional slight dash or pillar rattle in very cold weather, the only one I'm aware of so far is the license plate. I attached little adhesive vinyl bumpers to the underside top and bottom, but they didn't stop it, just damped it. I did install sound damping inside the lower door skins and behind the inner panels for resonance control (with speakers), but I didn't hear any rattles in those areas before doing so -- it did make the car generally quieter though and gave the doors a more solid feel and sound. It only has 9K on the clock, so perhaps I have more to look forward to.
It's because you're the owner who drives the car everyday. I bet if your friend let you drive his car for a month, you'd end up finding rattles too. But in my case, I guess I am now accustomed to any rattling so I don't even notice them, so I say give it time. lol
Personally I think the car is very quiet. I never had rattles even before I did all my sound work. But I went and put sound deadening through the entire car and then placed foam in the trunk as well under the speakers. Sound deadening might be where you want to begin. For me to rip the car apart and then install then put back together took about 10hrs total give or take or a weekend. I also did it in the cold so it was more difficult to apply.
Regarding the door windows, mine tend to rattle occasionally too when they're partially open, the channel weather strip on these cars isn't as snug as it could be.
I'm in the process on deadening the whole car bottom to top, but only because of road noise not rattles. I'm used to driving SUVs and trucks. These cars really are going to rattle more because of the open space in them as compared to a closed up sedan. Sound deadening material has always worked miracles for most rattle traps, but its always best to check to make sure all your interior pieces are tight. with drastic weather changes things will always rattle more over time. Also tires can help the overall ride and vibrations across the board. If one tire is slightly off alignment and causes the whole car to vibrate more then that could be the cause of issues.

Are you talking about stuff like dynamat? If thats all your doing you will still retain a fair amount of roadnoise. What you need is a closed cell foam to keep the noise you want out, out. And the noise you want in, in. Also a rubber mat works well. There was a website I found you can get all of that stuff pretty damn cheap. I can't remember the name of the site thought. I am pretty sure it was a reference on here though.
the rattle from my cargo cover is driving me insane. I put weatherstripping around the hard parts and the sub trim and it still vibrates like crazy. Im debating on just building a false floor above the subs to stop it.
The xB is easily the most rattle plagued vehicle I've owned...B-pillar in summer, a-pillars year round, and the annoying as all get out creaking windshield in the winter. Thankfully the stock Pio stereo with a little tweaking is very listenable, so I just turn it up.
Man yall must have DUDS if its that bad. I dont notice mine at all. My 2009 has 40k miles and has been from Cali to TX and to NY and my only complaint is noticable road noise. Maybe its cuz I am used to very oversized up armored vehicles that rattle more than a freaking diamond back. I feel sorry for ya if you gotta rattle trap but to be nice there aint no reason to complain if something can be done to help prevent the problem ie, dynmat, secondskin, stinger roadkill. just my 2cents. have a nice day. not tryin to be a ______.
Man, at just over 9K, I'm seeing little room to complain
! If those issues are what I have to expect, then it's indeed disappointing. All I can do is hope for the best -- still, in the meantime, I'll continue to focus on my mods
!
Best wishes to all owners, here's hoping for reasonable solutions to rattle concerns (can't say I'm used to them either

Surprised to see people having rattles. I'm running a GGP Poly motor mount which transfers engine vibration especially at idle. Other than the guage area on the dash - which you can really see moving after installing the mount, and some crap I have in the console I have no rattles at 25K miles on my '09.
A friend gave me a DynaMat front door kit and it did make the door sound more "solid" and the front speakers do have a little more clarity. I didn't even install it correctly as I want to partially remove it and apply some to the door skin. I'm going to look into those products mentioned. If I can drastically reduce road noise that would be great.
Hope you guys can figure out a solution and I hope we lucky ones don't develop the rattles.
