Just curious if anyone knows what type of tools are involved replacing the second O2 sensor on the S-Pipe? I think mine is broken and that's what causing the CEL.

Is it a simple plug in a new one and go or do you need to splice wires and/or solder anything?

You haven't even looked at it yet?! its a 2 foot wire that is screwed into your s-pipe on one end, and has the electrical connection on the other end. take a flat head screw driver and pop out that electrical connection FIRST, dont touch the sensor until you disconnected the electric. and then take a wrench and unscrew the actual O2 sensor. then get your new one and screw it in and then connect the electric after screwing it in. let me know if that helps.

Thats pretty much it - unless you get a universal sensor - in that case you will have to splice it in. For the rear sensor, you can get a universal to save some cash if you dont mind the wiring. A pnp replacement runs about $60 for the rear I believe whereas you can get a universal for about $25-30 - the front however is a 4 wire wideband which there is no universal for and runs $90-200 depending on where you find it.

 

Ahh okay thanks. Yea ive looked under there and the 02 sensor seems to be broken. It is screwed in tight but the top portion seems loose and wobbly if that makes sense. The reason i was asking was because i googled it and i read that splicing the wires was needed but i guess that was instructions for a universal 02 sensor.

Yeah, its screwed in pretty tight. That's a good thing. Grab a wrench, probably 7/8'', and get it out of there. screw that new one in and you should be good. If your CEL is still on, then i'd get a code reader, or go to the dealership and have them read the code and tell you what it really is. good luck man.

 

I believe for my last car there was a special socket for 02 sensors.

yeah, that is very possible, but not necessary. A pair of needle noses should do just fine.

 

Last thing i want to do is jack up a new 02 sensor. I don't know about you guys but i don't buy the cheap knock off's. You can rent the socket for free at most AutoZones.

I am the exact same way, i only buy the best and pay the most for the stuff i put in or do to my car, but who knows about this guy? maybe he's just looking to get it done however he can because i know pliers will be just fine, or like this guy above, large ajustable wrench, hahaha. but with pliers nothing with happen to the sensor, its inside, its not the nut that your tightening. just dont strip it like a jackson and you'll be good. good point TTCCC but i was just looking to help this guy out with as little effort as possible.
