AutoX: SCCA ST Class Rule Changes for 2012
So the SCCA is proposing changing up ST class to "Make a wider variety of cars competitive. Specifically, the ST class will now be
targeted at newer, heavier FWD sedans such as the Mini Cooper, Mazda 3,
Acura RSX, Toyota Corolla and Scion tC, as well as the new small FWD
“microcars” (e.g. Mazda 2, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris)" and I wanted to know the thoughts of those actually racing.
Here's a link the full proposed changes: 2012 Solo Rules Proposals
Short version of the changes:
- The most competitive ST cars will be moving to STS (including the Celica)
- BBKs and cat-back exhausts, ECU systems, (and potentially LSDs) will be allowed in ST
- No more class hopping (ie - if you're eligible for ST, you can't run in STX)
For the most part, this will make the tC all the more competitive. My one concern is I saw nothing about changing the wheel/tire requirements for ST. I would rather run in STX (with a .844 PAX adjustment) on 255 tires than in ST (with a .840 PAX adjustment) with 225 tires. The tC2 was blessed with HUGE wheel wells and I'd like to use them. Unfortunately, if the rules go as written, because I'm eligible to be in ST, I'd have to stay ST, though letting me stay ST and add fatty tires would make me happiest.

I cant wait for the new class even if we only get stuck with the 225s Thats what I'm running now. I dont think the width of the tire is hurting more then my lack of camber. I have been running in st all season and my Kook Rs3s are shot on the shoulder. I'm running my first gen trd release series tc with some upgrades. Camber bolts will be in tomorrow for this weekends event.

Good call. While lots of rubber will help, alignment will help more. Increased camber in the front should help, test the tires though. But with 225's, you could rock some killer r-comps for cheap!
