Hello everyone. My friend owns an Automatic xB2 and is asking me to help him with a trans swap. Unfortunately, I'm unfamilar with swapping transmissions in newer cars, specifically this one. What's a generic parts list and things to watch out for when I'm swapping in the transmission? If I swap the manual transmission from a tC's 5 speed, will that make a difference in the parts I need?

1. Take auto to used car lot with manual car.
2. Trade car in on manual car.
3. Drive manual car.

Welcome guy!

But in all actuality, I think you'd need ECU (may or may not be necessary), may or may not need main engine harness, ENTIRE transmission, possiblly mounts, shifter box, shifter cables, and that may be it. Axles may need to be swapped.

Best way to figure this out, is to do the research on your own. Dink around on http://www.villagescionparts.com/default.aspx website and see if the part numbers are the same. I've been doing the same trying to see the main differences between the tC and xB2 motors.

Yeah I did a lot of reading in the tC thread. I'm trying to see if anyone has actually done this for xB2's specifically. Here's what I've vaguely gathered:

1. Other than the obvious manual parts (clutch/flywheel/transmission), I will need the Auto ECU/Harness to prevent CELs, but they aren't absolutely necessary.
2. I will need to figure out the axle assembly stuff. I don't know which parts of it I'll need, etc.

EDIT: If I use the tC transmission, do I need to use everything that relates to the tC or the xB2? I wonder.

Seriously your friend would be better off doing this. Less hassle, probably less expensive, and if he gets a newer model that's still covered under Toyota's warranty he'll have some piece of mind. Not bashing your technical know how at all. Plus he wouldn't have any down time being without a ride.

I almost forgot... pedal assemblies, clutch cylinder and corresponding lines... probably more I'm still forgetting.

Well the swap is probably a better choice for him because his car is a 2008 model and the trade in value is worth 9-10k.....and a new xB is worth a lot more than that. The only inconvenience is the downtime, and the fact that the labor/install might be tough, but I don't mind helping him out anyway.

I figured out all of the parts I need, now I'm just going to see what the minimal steps are to doing the swap. I know I'm going to have to pretty much remove the whole dashboard/front of the interior....I wonder what else

Nice, let me know how it goes. I've been reading up a lot on the tC forums on how it goes for them. Seems to be fine if you've got the parts.
