Red face Anybody use the Voice Recognition on the 2012 Base Audio?

Just picked up my xB tonight and I've successfully BT paired and made calls using the base audio receiver. It's got a Voice Recognition feature, which you activate by holding down the call button for a couple seconds... but no matter what I say it doesn't do anything. Manual doesn't give any hints either

Anybody tell me what I'm missing? I know the mic works as I've called using the buttons...

Thanks!

I think it just activates the Voice Recognition on your phone so if you hold it down, then you need to speak into your phone and not into the headunit mic. seems to defeat the purpose lol...

I agree - this is what I came to believe as well. I think the premium audio actually does the interpretation as there are a list of voice commands in its manual.

If only Android had decent hands free dialing...

With my iPhone I just yell "call [name] [location]" a few times after holding the call button and it places the call.

Makes sense. Android doesn't have good hands free calling out of the box.

I can't get mine to work either. It must not be for that.

Has anyone tried using it for Siri?

I'm having the same problem. Occasionally a voice recognition window will open on my phone (Note 3) but it doesn't seem to register any sound at all. I know I've seen apps out there that are supposed to improve voice recognition over Bluetooth, so I'll have to experiment until I find one that works.

I think if you place your cell in the cup-holder in the center with it's insert, your phone's microphone is able to hear you when you speak, it then blue-tooth's it to the cars system...

Default It used to work

I bought my xB new in 2013. The voice recognition worked fine until IOS 11 or 12, at which time it began acting as everyone here has described. The only thing that I can do now with BT is answer incoming calls, unless I have my phone out and use ‘hey Siri’ commands. Once Siri is engaged BT works fine.

i used to be able to hold the call button down until I heard the tone, and could give any Siri command. This has not worked since IOS 11 OR 12 (thinking 12). I sure wish someone would fix it. Either Apple broke it with their update, or a change in IOS left Scion in the Stone Age with older Scion firmware. Unfortunately, I have not seen any firmware updates for the Scion.
