Question:

I am pretty damn good when it comes to fixing problems on cars and knowing what is wrong when something is happening especially with tcs. But this is one i cannot figure out. We got her new tires last week, mounted, "balanced" and aligned.

After a day of driving we realized they weren't balanced properly so we went back and they fixed it.

But now after about a week of driving, she is still noticing a shake at 60-65mph. Any ideas what it could be? Could they really still be out of balance? Or is there something else i should be looking into.

What is the mileage on the vehicle?

Not sure if she has had work done on her car previously, but you could check a few things.

engine mount, tranny mount, Bushings, Tie rods, Sway bars, basically the suspension components would probably be the culprit... but if you're saying it only happened after the new tires, it is kind of odd... definitely make sure they are properly balance, and that the camber, toe and all that good stuff is withing spec...

 

it's probably the tires. I has the same problem when i changed to a brand new set of bridgestone g019 grids. i had to take it to firestone to balance 6 times and it was still shaking like crazy. I finally got them to replace the tires with another model of tires.

 

I recently replaced my tires and have the same issue, going back to have it looked at soon. Might have something to do with the placement of the stick on weights or just laziness of the technician. 09TC w/36K

 

this might sound dumb, but check the wheel studs to see the condition of them. my buddy's jeep had 'death wobble' over 60mph and ended up being due to 2 wheel studs that had snapped and another that was about to snap. once fixed the wobble was gone

 

SMART tire installers / dealers will tell u to go back to them after 100 miles to retighten the lugs; stupid cheap a$$ tire installers will over-torque your lugs upon FIRST install.

Re-tighten them yourself with torque wrench (you can rent one from auto store most likely if u dont own one) 76ft/lbs torque each lug.

If that doesn't fix it, check your CV axles for leaks / grease. But since you said it only vibrates around 60mph-65mph, less like your axles. lol

Her car is a 2010 with around 20k on the clock. I will re-check the lugs and what not tonight if it isn't pouring and see whats up with them. As for the tires, i don't think it has to do with the tires as i put the same model and make on my RS's (given they are stretched)

I honestly didn't notice anything when i drove it the first time but maybe it is because with a stanced car i just kind of tune out the bumps and little things.

Possibility that the balancing machine at the dealership is poorly calibrated....Also, a lot of times the dealership only balances the tires at low speeds (usually up to 35mph) if they have a run-of-the-mill balancer. Try taking it to a speed/performance shop and have them do a "high-speed" or "target" balance, you will get much better results.

I had this issue on a set of Kumos, ask the tire place to check the tire for flat spots, that was my issue, and they had to replace the tire

 

I had the issue on my gen1 tc the stick on tire weights they used to balance my wheels kept falling off you might wanna check that put aswell as everything mentioned above its going to something stupid and simple but a pain in the A$$
