Hey guys, I spoke to SCION service center the other day and they said the first oil change is due @ 5000 miles, I always thought it was after the run-in period?

 

It's recommended that you get it done after break-in but it's not required.

 

Some people recommend that. Toyota obviously doesn't feel this is warranted or it would be stated in the owners manual. As long as you change as frequent or before the maintenance schedule in the manual you will not harm the car.

 

Ok, maybe I shoulda phrased that a little differently.

It's generally accepted that you get the oil changed after break-in....blah, blah, blah :D

had mine done at 600 miles and again at 2,500. Now I'm at 5,600 and I'm getting it changed again, then every 3,000 from here on out. It doesn't cost me anything, so it doen't hurt.

 

I'm a little over 3,400mi. and i'm waiting for the 5,000 mark.

When I picked up my plates I stayed for an oil change. I was at 950miles and decided to go for it. I dont know when my next change will be but I would say ...around 4500. Hope that helps. . . . If you aren't paying for your firs 3 changes, do it righter then you normally would.

 

I figure Scion say 5000miles
im going with 5000 miles.

 

got mine done at exactly 3000. i got my car back from the change with 3001 on it.

 

i'd definetely suggest getting one done within the first 500-1000 miles, as your engine and pistons break in, you dont want any small shaving of metal to be floating around in your oil.

 

I say you should do it every 3,000 miles. Especially if you push your car to its limits. Every 5,000 is way to long

 

3000 - 4000 miles is cool!

 

I do my first oil change at 1,000 miles, then every 3.000 afterwards....

It's an inexpensive insurance policy
