i have the injen exhaust and dc headers but dont really like the sound. the problem is obviously the midpipe. Im thinking about just getting custom one welded on and getting the more deep throaty sound and the hp increase. the only thing that worries me is the damn check engine light. but since i alreayd have it with the dc headers....whats it gonna hurt i guess. just wanted to know if anyone else has done it and how it turned out. thanks

I want to do a custom midpipe, I want to order the megan header and draxas downpipe first. then see if a local shop could make me a mid pipe w/ a resenator. That s my plan

Well I just got off the phone w/ my local exhaust guy and they just did a xb dual exhaust where the tips come out in the middle of the ride. So when I get the midpipe customed this month I will post some pics.

My plan:

Megan header
Custom 2.5" header-back exhaust
Apex N1 or Greddy Evo 2 or Blitz NurSpec Muffler

Apex N1 when i was thinking about doing a custom exhaust i was told these things suck if the car is N/A

they do.. they sound like ____ the APEX N1 i know of atleast..never heard the BLitZ.....just got the borla."thumper muffler in the mail gonna out it on today..see what happens..

yea the N1 is sweet on turboed, as soon as i get my exhaust done, ima have my friend design a "test pipe" but its gonna be straight thru, i can see if he wants to make a bunch to sell them to guys, but his main focus is ford probes, hopefully i can get him to make a bunch ill keep u guys posted

f1nch where in NY u located?

I had an Apex N1 on my subaru 2.5rs and it sounded sweet all around, that was N/A and a 2.5 liter v.s. the 2.4. But it was boxster H4 engine, while this is inline 4, not sure. But it will be s/c eventually.

well i guess i might be the first to try to custom mid-pipe. i already did the antifouler spark plug trick and it goes off and on, but i need to do the second o2 sensor and it might do the trick. but yea my friend will go halfs for me on my bday to do the custom exhaust, just worried about what kind of signals it will throw....wish me luck

^^^ Wasn't the anti-fowler trick to be done only on the second o2 sensor?

2.5" is pretty damn big, especially with a NA engine. You're gonna lose power and worse doing that because the 4 cylinder needs that back pressure.

The stock is 2.25", and the aftermarket ones are 2.5" and show gains. Maybe on the box it wouldn't work.

You were supposed to have done it on the 2nd o2 sensor, not the 1st.

i'm pretty sure the midpipe will make it louder, not deeper

yea i know about the second 02 sensor now. i found that out after the fact but just cant do it yet because i live in an apartment attending college and have to go home 2 hours away to do it. it should sound better than it does now. well see what happens

aight guys i talked to my customizer, and he said he would be able to make the test pipes, the price range would be around 80, hed havta completely decide after he takes a look at wats involved, shipping wont be too hard cuz they small, but i need to know about how many to make, a rough number, id rather not be left wit any but i guess they can go to the highest bidder, lol

and the gutted pipes do affect the exhaust pitch, not much but it gives a slightly deeper, but louder tone, on my probe it wasnt to shabby, sounded like hot exotic wit the borla...enough about that jus pm me or post up ill b catchin up on this thread

damn man chill, i still gotta bring my car to the shop, maybe tmrw morning, but lemme double check on something, to make sure we are all on the same page here, the "mid-pipe" is the pipe that holds the catalic converters right...or is there a pipe before them???, on my probe it was jus headers, cats, exaust, so if im mistaken sry

aarontrini85

mid pipe is the pipe between the header or exhaust manifold and the axle back part of the exhasut

ok theres a slight problem, sry im a fool and its 220 am so bare wit me, i was assuming, (cuz im an ___) that u were looking to replace only the cat, (test pipe), but im starting to realize that the mid pipe is basically about 4 ft long???or am i being an even bigger idiot??

brownbanana
04-01-2005, 07:53 AM
yea, the thing is pretty long

aarontrini85
04-01-2005, 12:17 PM
wow they were going to charge you $80 just for a little pipe to replace the cat? that is alot of money for just that

The exhaust is set up like this I think, when I did my oil change two weeks ago I studied the set up. Header, spipe w/02 sensor, midpipe w/ cat, axel back trd. So my plan is to replace everything with 2.5 mandrel bent pipe

confusion sux, ill bring the car sometime this week, see wat he can do and ill post up

Yup, mid-pipe is kinda long. Do you plan on using a high-flow cat?

well i did the custom mid-pipe and not to happy. but i think i have more things to do like high flow cat and make the s-pipe. i dont want it any louder, in fact i want it quieter. im thinking a bigger muffler would help. any suggestions?

someone please dyno there car before and after the custom pipe. i'm really interested to see how much you gain.

i can't help but think, if this was necessary, wouldn't the aftermarket companies like greddy and DC make full systems? i mean afterall, they do have engineers and race tuners for employees.

the car will sound like ___ if you do the midpipe! do not do it without a resonator, high flow cat, big muffler, anything to keep it quiet. i have to probably sell the injen axle back exhaust to do this and probably looking towards a differnt route. i hate the car right now and drive it as least as possible. someone help if they have any suggestions what to do. might be selling dc headers too.

wow...i was thinkin of actually just gutting out the whole exhaust, i havnt gone to my customizer yet, no time!!!but i still dont understand y everyone is complaining about the tc, everyother car (almost) generates an awsome sound from a reasonable 2.5 inch piping, headers, cat(not high flow), and a riced out bomb in the back...and most the cars ive seen this done to were 2.0L engines, i would think that a tc would have a slight differencebut i guess its for the worst, we'll see how it comes out, im goin to va next weekend so its gonna short my funds, and as for a dyno, i def dun got the time for that, hopefully end of this month or begning of next ill be able to lift the biatch up and see wat i could do...ill post up

a lotta times the aftermarket companies try to make their exhaust imitate the stock, but only give more power(more free flow), and another reason is that some people feel that straight through exhaust release too much back pressure, in turn actually lowering some hp and torque(not necessarilly true)...its a damn job and a half, but me personally love noise, so if it goes a lil louder above aftermarket i dont mind, just drop a lower gear and ease off the gas around cops, but again im kinda short on funds and cant get this done right away, im tryin to get rid of my probe parts as well, and the damn probers expect everything for free!!!

I did a custom midpipe with two magnaflow 14" resonators for those searching these types of threads. I have the AW header and CC S-pipe. The TRD exhaust and it sounds very much like a fart can. Before the header the TRD sounded sweet. I use a K&N CAI.
