Okay, before i say anything. I don't want there to be hundreds of xb vs ____ forums, however i figured this would get your attention!!!

This morning when i got off work (i work 3rd, 9pm-5:30am for the next 2 weeks), i was coming home from work. (store i work at is off a highway) Anyway, after passing a few lights this SSM Tc pulls out beside me. Now, before i continue i don't typically race on public streets. However, the early morning and no one on the road (literally) is somewhat of a controlled area. At any rate, i reved at him not to race, but to get his attention to wave. He looked over, and i waved. Well, he pointed at the light and gave me the look of "want to run?". So, thinking he may have been a SL member, i was like why not..This could make a good story on SL. So, i pop OD off and drop it into first.

Light turns green and we take off, it was a light to light run and im not sure of distance. He beat me off the line obviously, however i caught up to him. Now, i caught up to him between 30-55mph before he started to drift away again. However, at the next light i wasn't too far away from him but the light was still green and i slowed back down to speed limit. He kept going, but looked like he slowed down too. So, the whole point of this is the following:
Tc's are quick cars, however the Xb can be quick and fairly fast. Don't let HP numbers get you all down, its all about power to weight and gearing.

Just for the record, because i know im going to get all kinds of questions:
A/T
Performance Mods:
AEM CAI
DC sports header
Hotchkis strut bar
JIC spartan exhaust
Techno R CF hood (vis w/ scoop)
Tanabe df210 springs
(i do realize not all are "power" mods, but for instance CF hood weighs less than stock, small difference but every pound counts.. springs because lower center of gravity = better handling and so on)

TC:
A/T
Greddy exhaust? I know he did have exhaust, but whether it was axle, cat, or universal, i don't know.

As far as i know, thats all he had. If he is a SL member, good run!

*Just a reminder i did not WIN, and i don't typically street race. Do NOT recommend racing on the street for there are many risks involved, try to keep it on the track. Don't give me crap because i did it, as i said above no traffic in front of us, 1 car (literally) about a mile behind us, and on top of that stretch of road where race happend, no place for cars to just jump out in front of us.*

I would never race anyone period, but especially not in an xB.

xBs are about function and style, not speed. 8)
Of course, tCs aren't about speed either. :lalala:

I used the xB to race in GT4 once... late me state that again - once. hahaha...

pftftftf my xB pwns almost every other car out there...including Every tC ever made, and that includes any mod you can cram under the hood. Does your tC or Mustang nave Nitro or Turbo? My STOCK xB will OWN your cars soul every time. Got afterburners on your Subaru WRX? No problem, my xB will absolutely crush it.

You see, my xB will cover a quarter mile, half mile, mile or any other unit of distance measurement in less fuel than most cars out there. When I pull up to a gas pump it costs under $20 to fill my car up and I get over 300 miles between fillups. That is not going to happen in a Suburban.

The Scion tC gets great gas mileage for the type of car that it is, but the xB gets better mileage - pure and simple. And MPG numbers and the ca$h they save me are the only numbers that matter to me. :)

It only takes you $20 to fill up? With the gas prices here it takes me over $20 if i let it get real low, but i try to fill up once its half way. To save on money and the such..

I love it.... I bought xB to save on gas, and the way prices are, I'm paying just as much for the beater that had crap for mpg

In my Echo, i used to tell peeps giving me crap "I'll race you..." when they'd give me a look like I was nuts, I'd say "5 gallons of gas, who can go the farthest?" hehehe It's not always about speed.

And BTW, 2 half-tanks = 1 full tank, so filling up more frequently doesn't save you any money, it just regulates how much you spend at a time. And for me, the wasted time of an additional stop doesn't work well for me.

It's saving me money right now. Gas went from $1.96 to $2.26 in about a weeks time and it's getting higher everytime I look around. Now when I get to half full I'm looking for the cheapest gas try to save a few pennies before it goes up again.

Maybe if you had a manual. . . you do realize that an auto xB does 0-60 in about 10 seconds. Auto tC's do it in under 8 seconds. Now, 2 second may not sound like a lot, but travel 2 seconds at just 30 mph, and count how many car lengths that is.

I'm not gonna say you are full of it, but that it just seems unlikely (although it may be possible, who knows?). It is possible that he was pointing if you were going the same direction, and wasn't racing. But it would be cool to find the owner and find out!

Brings to mind cars running the 1/4 mile. Ever see someone win time-wise but have a slower top speed? If it was a race to see who could get to 60mph the fastest, then I could see your point, but I don't interpret those stats as putting the tC ALWAYS 2 seconds ahead of the xB...

And your point is...? I never said my xB had the best MPG of any car, only that it was better than most, which is true.

Yeah, up until last week gas was stil under $2/gallon. Today it is around $2.15. Even at 10 gallons that will only cost $21.50. I stand by my original comment however because I fill up around the 9.5 gallon mark because that is when the light usually comes on. I don't think I have ever broken 10 gallons on a fillup.

And i agree with you, i do need to find the owner. however, the tc really isn't that fast. and even though the mods i have to date aren't adding 30whp, it does make a difference. if he left it in drive, and didn't shift down (didn't sound like he did, but then again, i can't hear that much on top of hearing mine) then its possible. (also leaving OD on makes a difference) There are tons of possible reasons, however, i do know for a fact it was an auto, and when we passed the following light i was maybe 1.5-2 car lengths back. the whole point is, i stuck with him and actually caught up with him. (caught up with him around 30mph, and he started drifting away again around 55mph) So with that said, i don't think he tried to give me an advantage but then again, i wasn't in the car with him.

BTW: Not many cars priced under $20,000 are ment to be raced, however, we all know how many civics there are tricked out. (not talking about pep boy parts) Its not about what they are meant for, thats what building a car is about. Making it better than before. (apologize if this is hard to understand, just got done washing my car and i didn't get much sleep.)

So, with this said. Im going to go out and take some pictures, ttyl.

Be safe.

And I wouldn't say the tC would ALWAYS be faster than the tC based on 0-60, but even in the quarter mile, you're talkin a 18+ second car stock, vs 16 second runs. . . I was figuring that this was in the city, and speeds were kept low. . . and there was a chance the tC shut down too, but I'm not knocking the xB or tC, I'm more so curious as to what and why and how. From my understanding, the tC isn't capable of plaid inducing ludicrous speed, but there is a stark difference between their cars and our measly 1.5L hamsters.

actually, if you really wanted to save a tiny but more money you would only fill it up halfway each time the gas light comes on. Gas = weight = less mpg.

i think this thread should have never been started, ur gonna get some ppl stirred up. i rip on the xB once in a while, but it's all in good clean fun. I think all scions are a class of their own. I drive a tC and love it, others drive the xB and love it.

I don't believe anyone is ripping on the TC or any other scion car yet, and shouldn't. This forum was made specifically for Xb owners that believe their car can't get out of their own way. Proving that yes, the box can be quick even with minor mods under the hood. (once i get the s/c it will be pretty quick. my hopes are by the end of this year)

In return, if anyone gets stirred up over this discussion thats uncalled for. Yes, people take things differently so of course people can get defensive over situations that don't need to be. At any rate, coming in here implying the fact that you rip on the xb doesn't help anything. Everyone knows that when people do that, crap happens. With that said, im sorry you feel the way you do but theres much worse threads on the forum.

And about gas, i would never let the gas light come on before filling up! I just can't do it. When i said save money, i didn't mean long term per se. I meant that very second. lol Oh well, could have been clearer. But thanks anyway! By the way, gas prices here are around $2.35 for 89.

Sometimes when I drive the xB I think, "hmm, this feels almost as fast as the tC". Then I notice that I am only a little ahead of the traffic behind me.

Sometimes when I drive the tC I think, "this thing isn't hardly any faster than the xB", and I notice that all the traffic around me is about 10 car lengths behind me.

I think the tC driver was being charitable.

Although in deference to the xB the traction control might help it off the line against a bad driver in a tC. Of course, in your case I had the impression it was off a roll.

Also in deference to the xB, I get about 4 compliments on it for every one I get on the tC.

But for a sporty drive, come on, the tC is the winner.
