View Full Version : clear bra pics?
2wright 04-20-2005, 12:13 AM Anyone have any pics of their car with a clear bra (3M, Xpel, Rockblocker etc) on? Preferably a dark color like FM or BSP. It seems most of these products use the same 3m film, so they should all look similar if installed properly.
Thanks
malina 04-20-2005, 12:28 AM I have RockBlocker on my FM tC and you can't see it unless you look closely. Even if I took a picture you wouldn't be able to see it unless I got right up on it with the sun against it, then you'd only be able to see the edge of it, nothing more.

Were you impressed with it? I was thinking about getting it for my car. worth it?
iowagary 04-20-2005, 02:06 AM I have 3M on my car - I've posted the pictures on other threads before. Here are two of them - you should bear in mind that you can't see it in general. These pictures are specially set up so that you CAN see it, so you can see what it looks like when you're looking for it.

its_ikon 04-20-2005, 02:31 AM it is a clearbra, how can you see something clear?
j/k
scoobyroo2002 04-20-2005, 02:35 AM Look at the first put..you can see the line on the hood and going down the bumper..that's where the bra starts.
I personally dont like how you can see the line that would bug me. But then again so would rock chips! thank god i dont drive much :P
o you were kiddin...O WELL POST IT ANYWAYS
2wright 04-20-2005, 02:35 AM Thanks iowagary, that's exactly what I was looking for. Doesn't look bad at all, even when you can see it. Just out of interest how much was your install?
iowagary 04-20-2005, 02:41 AM Thanks 2Wright... I love it. Every scratch on my car bugs the crap out of me, so having a front fascia and hood without them is great. The install itself was like $250 or so, but I took it to an expensive place - I just wanted to get it done right.
As for Scooby, if you approach the car from the front, you can't see any lines until you're about 2 feet away and looking for them. People who drive with me every day still don't notice - one found it a few months after we started carpooling and thought it was plastic from the factory. You don't know unless you already know. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
scoobyroo2002 04-20-2005, 02:44 AM o COOL!....hmmmmmmmmmm maybe i get it too! wonder who does it around here.....who would i look up in the phone book?
240SXtoTC 04-20-2005, 02:50 AM that's what i'm wondering. where can i get a clear bra and who does the install? maybe a tint and detailing place ie: ziebart?

I am driving up to Phoenix this Saturday to have mine done up with the Rockblocker kit. It is so worth it in my opinion, unless of course you WANT to repaint.
rjj130 04-20-2005, 03:27 AM I'm getting the new Madico product put on tomorrow. Should have it back Thursday after work....I'll take pictures of the after and post them....should be same results as above.
scoobyroo2002 04-20-2005, 05:02 AM how long does it take to install? like a full day?
iowagary 04-20-2005, 05:23 AM If you had someone lined up who has done tCs before it would probably be more like 3 hours, assuming your car is really clean (like clay bar clean) when you drop it off. Like all things, it will probably end up being a full day.
malina 04-20-2005, 03:27 PM It took RockBlocker a couple hours to do my kit and it is well worth it. I would definitely do it again.
utatc7218 04-20-2005, 03:54 PM DAMN IT GUYS!!! you got my hopes up with the name of this forum... Next time specify its a stupid car!!!!
scoobyroo2002 04-20-2005, 04:11 PM  ^^^^^ YOUR A FUNNY GUY!
Damn nice clean bra
owenbaier 04-20-2005, 04:29 PM I don't mind if women wear clear bras.
fausty 04-20-2005, 05:08 PM I have a leather bra on my current car. And I know it affects the look of the paint after some time (whatever is covered vs. what's not). Naturally, because of sun and uneven car washes.
Does anyone know if the clear bra can affect paint color over time? Or is it fine because it is essentially...clear? I know it's mainly for chips and such but it would suck to have a two-colored hood 5-8 years down the road.
Has anyone had their clear bra on for a while and noticed any peeling or anything? I'm considering getting this when I get my Scion. Just curious...thanks.
iowagary 04-20-2005, 05:15 PM The whole point is that since it is clear, it will let the paint fade evenly with the rest of the car. I think the one concern a real detailer might have is that since there is a horizontal seam across the hood and a vertical seam across the two front quarter panels, there is a chance that if you let dirt build up in there you could scratch things. But if you know how to wash your car this isn't a problem. In all honesty, everyone who cares about how their car looks should get one of these. Do it NOW not later, since the whole point is to keep the paint perfect - if you put one on over a bunch of rock chips, they're sure not going away.
2wright 04-20-2005, 05:28 PM Yeah, I really wish I'd got one for my Matrix when it was new. Now (2 1/2 years and 70k miles later) I literally have hundreds of paint chips in the hood and the entire front bumber and ground effects are turning white (the Matrix is IIP).
DAMN IT GUYS!!! you got my hopes up with the name of this forum... Next time specify its a stupid car!!!!
yep i came to this thread thinking it was going to be something completely different than what it is lol.

Obviously you haven't seen the pics of the CF hood with the clear bra.
gavmitchau 04-20-2005, 05:52 PM Nope.. ive seen plenty of hoods without bras though.
utatc7218 04-20-2005, 06:29 PM I favor trunks more... BIG trunks!
malina 04-20-2005, 06:31 PM Haha, you wouldn't like my trunk then.
gavmitchau 04-20-2005, 06:58 PM LOL
too funny
utatc7218 04-20-2005, 08:50 PM I also like headlights!
kenstc 04-21-2005, 12:12 AM I have been considering getting this done, but the thing i worry about is...when the plastic gets scratched, chipped, etc, what is it going to look like? I can only imagine seeing my car with a bunch of weird looking plastic scratched holes in it. If it starts to do that, do you have to repaint? Or is this not even an issue? Warrantee on the clear bras?
Any input would be greatly appreciated
2wright 04-21-2005, 01:43 AM I think the whole point is that if the plastic starts looking scratched or damaged, you can remove it and get it reinstalled for a lot less than if it was your paint job that was scratched. I know I'd rather pay $300 to have new 3m put on than $800+ for the bumper or hood to be repainted.
iowagary 04-21-2005, 06:56 AM First of all, the plastic is soft - it doesn't scratch or chip - well... it might scratch a little bit, but it's a clear product, so scratches don't show. It certainly doesn't chip. Most of these installations are warrantied for about 7 years. That's how long it's supposed to last. At that point, if you wanted, you could apply a little heat and peel the thing right off. You could put another one on, or you could just sell the 7 year old car.
If the plastic chipped, there would be no reason to use it. This stuff was developed by 3M to protect the leading edge of helicopter rotor blades - they hit lots of stuff going WAY faster than the front of your car. They use this stuff on NASCAR cars (hate the sport, but you've got to admit that they hit stuff faster than you do). Anyway, unless you're driving your car to work in a gravel quarry, you don't have to worry.
boostedscion 04-21-2005, 08:39 AM whoa that is a nice mod
rjj130 04-22-2005, 03:36 AM I just got my tC back today. The guy did a phenomonal job using the Madico product. A few days in the sun and it'll be 100%!!!
I cannot see the film unless I am standing on top of the car. It's great. I'll be sure to a full write up in a few weeks after having the product cure and totally bond to the car.

ReznorTC 04-24-2005, 12:01 PM what is a full kit? does it cover the entire car? and another question... are you still supposed to wax your car with this stuff?
