In everyday activities of driving around from here to there, do they really matter?
Are they more for the racer in use.

I'm only asking because I only drove one car with a quickshift kit and didn't realize it had it, so I didn't pay attention much...

Basically asking what the benefits are adn if it is worth looking into

it just makes you shift into gear faster. so thats less time that you have to clutch pushed down. i have heard of some people messing up their tranny with them. but i think that was because they slammed them to hard. i dont really care much for short throws.

I LOVE my rs-type. much shorter in both height and throw.

Just feels a little nicer to drive imo... wish my TRD was a little shorter in throw, i like the height

i actually would rather chop the top and raise the shifter to the roof

For adding a more pleasing experience to your drive, I think it's the best thing you can do. I have the TRD. It shortened the throw some which makes changing gears less of a stretch. It is lower so your arm can hang in a more comfortable position. The angle is also brought back so 1st and 3rd gear don't put the shift knob at the dash pocket.

This is first gear with a TRD. Compare it to the position of your factory shifter and you'll immediately tell the difference.

What is the installation process for that TRD shifter? I have been considering getting one for some time, but there is no shop that can install it. Therefore, I would have to do it myself with my limited mechanical skills. Can you explain the process?

It comes with very easy instructions to follow so I'm not going to explain the whole process. It should take less than 30 minutes. Theres one screw that holds the center console, four bolts that hold the shifter in, and a couple of clips that hold the cables in place. The only really aggravating part is deciding what to do with the shift boot. The new shaft is too big for the plastic piece at the top of the boot. Some have just drilled it out to fit. I took mine out and sewed the boot to fit. Good luck!

I was going to order it with my car (05 rs2) since it was ~$150 but they told me labor was 8 hours which was crazy ($650)!

So is this kit is pretty easy to install myself? Basically I'm fine if it comes with good instructions and I can do it all from inside the car without any major fabrications.

Could anyone scan the instructions for me?

IMO all the quickshifters are about the same, the hair splitting differences aren't worth the 100$ diff. i agree w/hotbox05, i love the rstype, though, it does touch the passenger seat if the seat is up forward; or the thigh of the passenger (but usu. my gf, so no problem :P )

but as for shift neccessity, i like the fact that i can get from gear to gear with a wrist throw rather than an arm throw; + im short, so it helps

Changing your shifter out and putting in the TRD shifter can take less than half an hour. It is not difficult. You basically take out the shifter console. Then you take out the old shifter and put in the new one. It's only a matter of undoing and putting back four bolts and a couple of pins.

I'm kinda tall at 6' 2 and find myself reaching over at times because I have the seat back all the way... Might just me being lazy, but will the short shifter eliminate some of the reaching? I don't do it all the time just on occasional I'll realize I'm kinda reaching.

that install quote seems just about the exact same as a trd clutch , thats probably where that came from
