Default Cool air intake vs. Short Ram

I know the basic difference between cold air and short ram but what is going to give the best performance ( horse power, torque). And what brand does anyone reccomend

I think this needs to be moved to Power Hungry.

The difference in horsepower and torque is very minimal, from a short ram you might see an increase of 2-3WHP and from a CAI you might see a difference of 5-6WHP. Its nothing really noticable, and personally, the only good thing a CAI is for, is the sound.

they have those "sound like you have a turbo" noise makers, so why doesn't someone make a "sound like you have an intake" one.

well 5-6 horsepower translates to about 8 crank.

And 168hp is always better than 160

Oops, noticed this was on the xA and xB boards.

Well, 116 is still better than 108

My Scion XB have a cool Injen cold air intake.

That's a cool air intake!

I'm not sure if produces more horsepower but the sound that produces is awesome and beautiful for the ears.

PM NISMOZ33 he took great care of me when I ordered my Injen short ram from performancenissanparts.com. Got it in 2 days. The other place had me waiting like you forever!

So, you guys are saying the CAI is louder then the short ram, but the short ram IS more effective and produces more gains?

20 additional ponies doesn't make sense to me for $3000.00+

If I could get up to 190 like a Jetta then maybe the power to weight ratio would be more inline to costs.

20 ponies is a non tuned crappy not enough boost system , and 3k is a bit much. and power to weight can be damn good with these cars seeing as how theyre like 600 pounds less than a jetta.

sorry to dissapoint you guys but an intake doesnt give 5 hp i saw a xb with headers , intake , and exhaust (sorry not sure on the exact products used) get dynoed and it only gained 7hp and that was at 5500-6000 rpm range

Some here posted there dyno at 122. Tuned, dunno? But why post your untuned dyno.

I have read some companies boast 56% on a turbo system at 6 PSI

Besides, you'd still be doing 4g's at 80 in 5th gear. You just happen to get there faster...
