cleaning the TRD exhaust tip

i have these ugly lookin black spots on my muffler and exhaust tip they are raised and gritty almost tar looking in appearance how do i get this off without scratching the finish

I would try a chrome polish. That stuff has worked pretty well for me in the past.

bug and tar remover with microfiber cloths might do it
