Very smoothe install except for one minor detail - they provide some screws that you need an allen wrench for, and they appear to be non metric! what the hell? anyway, that nearly ruined the whole install since I didn't have a non metric allen wrench.

Im curious as to the function of the "air bypass valve" which is basically like a second air filter in the middle of the pipe between the mass air sensor and the real air filter. Anybody know?

also, I think you could probably put the K&N filter where the 'bypass valve" is and get a 'short ram' style intake instead of cold air.

Anyway, the air filter sits in the fender well, the car's sound definitely changes and gets deeper. Not sure if I notice any power difference or not. =)

the air bypass valve is there incase the air filter gets submerged or flooded in water, it's there for safety...so your car won't get hydro-locked. Something like that.... :D

but then it wouldnt be cooler air! ... you say that you've felt no power gain at all? Seriously?!?

the AEM dynoed at +3 hp, so Im sure its doing that.
Lots of people claim to be able to feel power differences in the 3% range. But a lot of times they are wrong. placebo effect. So I prefer not to comment unless the difference is profound and obvious.

as for cooler air, the inject intake dynoed higher than the AEM, and it is just a short pipe that sits in the engine bay.

K&N filter??? where??? AEM makes all their own filters now that should be included in your kit for the xA.

The Injen intake is often called a "short ram".........but it is actually a cold air intake (or "cooler" air anyhow). The filter sits behind the driver side headlight........away from the heat of the engine bay. The pipe is shorter than the AEM because there are no bends all over the place like the AEM. It's just a straight shot from the throttle body to behind the headlight.

99% of cone filters are made by K&N so you assumed correctly

By code of Covenant we are suppost to charge the customers 335 plus installation costs. But on Toyota parts web page the cost for the AEM air intake is only 279. A customer brought this to my attn. and I didn't know how to respond. Why such a fluctuation in cost??
