View Full Version : A simple solution to the rear wiper hole
tinnerman88 05-30-2005, 03:34 AM Im a sheet metal worker by trade,so here is MY answer to the rear-wiper hole for those who dont wanna look at the useless wiper. Now before any of you start whining 'bout pictures, use you imagination.I removed the rear wiper assy.,then took a 3" round( diameter) piece of 22 gauge galvanized sheet metal, and another piece of galvanized that i etched(removed the galvanizing with muriatic acid). The etched piece was the same diameter as the hole left by the wiper assy.I purposely didnt state the diameter of this piece because it may vary from car to car(if even only a hair or two). The etched piece was then spot-welded to the 3" piece.I sanded it nice n smooth ,then used liquid nails to adhere to my rear hatch, from the inside.Prior to fastening it,I had some Polar white left over from a body-shop visit and painted it to match my box and ...Voila!! NO PIX,but you get the point, right?!
FrankenScion 05-30-2005, 04:10 AM I need one. Now.
But, I'm not a sheet metal worker.:(
Scion05BOPxB 05-30-2005, 06:15 PM liquid nails?
tinnerman88 05-30-2005, 07:53 PM Liquid nails is the brand name.Home Depot has it
Scion05BOPxB 05-30-2005, 07:58 PM I know what it is. Generally used for wood. Just curious why you wouldn't use epoxy or jbweld?
TheScionicMan 05-30-2005, 08:30 PM Yes, I'll take one, too...
tinnerman88 05-30-2005, 11:38 PM Cause.JB weld is a lil much.Liquid nails works just fine with metal..If anyone wants one of these ..I'll sell em for 10 bux plus shipping. The paint is your responsibility
Max2k 05-31-2005, 02:14 AM So you... filled in the hole, then painted it.
TheIcon 05-31-2005, 11:44 AM ^^^^ LOL
Yes Yes that is what he did in a very confusing welding lingo kind of way.
I just took sulfuric acid and burned some 1/2 inch stainless steel by ossmosis and then I took som butter and toasted it to the inside of my car and pulled out my trusty paint chip painter and painted it. Viola!
Ok im sorry I had to make up something because I didn't understand much of what you said. Ill take my $1 hole plug and paint it. :) If it works for you more power to ya. Sounds like you did a good job.
TheScionicMan 05-31-2005, 04:29 PM I think the difference from your hole plug is that this would be almost flush.
TheIcon 05-31-2005, 06:59 PM Yea thats what I got out of it.
tinnerman88 06-02-2005, 08:03 AM ............If you read a lil CLOSER..It says"PRIOR to installing the patch,I painted it" Prior is the key word here na dyeah It sits exactly flush...Came out TETAS!!!
tinnerman88 06-02-2005, 08:10 AM My the way,Moron,Osmosis only has 2 "s" and A Viola is a sort of violin...If it'll help ,I'll put it in sub-Laymens terms..."I took sum shiny crap and stuck em together, then stuck that shiny crap into the square jaloppy thingamajig "...and your 1 dollar plug took you longer to go the store and spend a dollar(plus gas) than it took me to shear out2 small round discs and spot em together....Fab time was about 6 minutes, material free..Its funny how a simple idea and relaying to people who might be interested gets replies from a bunch o' ignorant hillbillys.
TheIcon 06-02-2005, 10:51 AM Well I must be a moron since you didn't get my humor. It was only ment to be funny. So reach around, pull the panties out of the crack, step back from the keyboard, and breathe deeply. It will be ok.
Why not read the second portion of my post where I said "if it works for you more power to you. It sounds liek you did a good job" Thats called giving you props. Damn sensitive people. People need to smile and lighten up.
So once again I say. It seems to have worked for you. Good job.
FrankenScion 06-02-2005, 02:12 PM Mines ordered. I will let everyone know how it turns out.
tinnerman88 06-03-2005, 08:40 PM Hey "Icon"...how 'bout I pull your girlfriend's panties out of my mouth, then take my keyboard and beat your ___.I'll be in Aberdeen next month ya smartass.Scion Life should put a ban on worthless crap spewed out by guys like you. And of course,I did a good job & of course, you'll come back with some idiotic crap.....so let's hear it.If you dont have anything nice to say, then SHUT YOUR F*CKIN PIEHOLE.
TheIcon 06-06-2005, 01:58 PM Yea I post such crap all the time. Whatever thread closed to me.
corncobbannie69 06-08-2005, 10:43 PM tinnerman your so brutal. Sounds like you did a good job on the car though.
Lonely_Raven 06-08-2005, 11:08 PM Wow, chill guys, most of us left the playground back in our teens...

corncobbannie69 06-09-2005, 06:43 AM piehole plug.. thats a good one.. well, who is the expert that can answer that one? tinnerman?
ThunderGod 06-09-2005, 07:24 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/hotxb990/nowiper.jpg
OdBox 06-09-2005, 08:33 AM ^^^ Pretty nice. Would be even cooler if it was flush or at least color matched.
Still debating if i should shave mine.
TheIcon 06-09-2005, 10:55 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/hotxb990/nowiper.jpg
I saw this plug and I liked it because I have alot of silver pieces on the exterior of my XB. It almost reminds me of a key hole. (minus the hole haha)
Also think it blends and matches well with the Scion logos.
Lonely_Raven 06-09-2005, 11:58 AM Is that the Scion one, or a hardware store one?
My plan was to just get a rubber or metal one from a hardware
store and paint to match.
ikhonlord 06-09-2005, 01:18 PM Thanks for the info tinnerman88 but is it really as simple as you say? Maybe its simple to you because you have the experience and the tools but for other it may not be as easy.
Also try to keep your posts friendly and on-topic (and that goes for both tinnerman88 and The Icon)
TheIcon 06-09-2005, 03:01 PM That silver/crome color plug I saw at Home Depot. So I konw you can get it at a store such as that. IF that is the same as the one you can get from the dealer I don't know. I would assume the dealer would charge you more though.
FrankenScion 06-09-2005, 03:09 PM As soon as I get my plug from Tinnerman I will let you guys know how it fits and looks. And post pics.

yes, thats from the hardware store. the pic was taken about a year ago. since then, i changed it to a black plastic tab. i have a couple of tabs that i will paint to match.
tinnerman88 06-13-2005, 02:42 AM I can make anything. If someone needs a piehole plug ,gimme the dimensions and I'll ship it off asap...Yes ,it's galvanized, but the galvanizing is stripped w/muriatic acid for paint.
TheScionicMan 07-20-2005, 11:28 PM As soon as I get my plug from Tinnerman I will let you guys know how it fits and looks. And post pics.
So did you do this or did your repaint resolve the issue? I forgot to look at it on your pic thread.
tinnerman88 - I've got a project for ya, will send you a PM...
Eddieg 07-20-2005, 11:39 PM or you could do this
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a106/desertmargaritas/DSC02397.jpg
I bought the trunk tumble @Auto Zone for 5.99
Gregh1 07-20-2005, 11:53 PM I think the best thing to do is to make a kegarator in the back and put a beer tap on to fill the hole
450xB 07-21-2005, 12:02 AM I dont know if i like the off centered plug i think ill just shave mine in the future?!

My repaint resolved the issue. I gave the plug to a club member who is getting ready to shave theirs.
Prototype_xB 07-21-2005, 04:15 AM i like the plug
2tone_xB 07-21-2005, 09:02 PM Nice xB in the background.

suspended 08-02-2005, 02:37 PM does anyone know the part number from toyota??? no dealership in jacksonville knows wtf i'm talking about?
matt_a 08-02-2005, 07:32 PM Ya know what I think is so funny about this? If the xB didn't come with a rear window wiper, there would be people
on here posting links to aftermarket units that we could buy and instal. :P
ifixsharp 09-05-2005, 01:09 AM take a look at my photos. I solved the problem for .50 cents. I think it looks as good as anyone else has come up with.

So what did you use & where did you buy it from? Got a part #?
ifixsharp 09-05-2005, 01:44 AM Hey guys im glad to hear that some of you like my mod. I'll give you the brief low down. And you will like the part number. Here it is..
http://www.tankkiller.com/car/bolt.jpg
Ok go to the hardware and buy a 3/8 inch carriage bolt (1 1/2 inch long should do it)
remove the rear panel on the door. Remove the three bolts that hold wiper motor onto door. Remove the wiper motor, but leave the rubber plug in rear door.
Now take the carriage bolt and file the letters of the end so it is smooth and then prime it. Then paint it black or gloss black (your preference)
Put bolt through the rubber and install a washer on the back with nut. This will compress the rubber and the bolt head being the right size will seal out water.
Hope you like my cheap, Yet quality fix.........
Greg
