Default Read something interesting in the paper

There was a small article in the Honolulu Advertiser here in Hawaii on Friday about Scions.
It was the basic mumbo jumbo about how they're Toyota's, aimed at a younger market, blah blah blah... then they went on to say that Scion is thinking about offering the cars in just primer for those who are sanding off the paint only to repaint it.

Anyone know if there's any truth to this? Seems like an interesting marketing strategy. One thing that suprised me though, it said the non painted versions will cost a bit more :?

A few more little tidbits of info in the article:

Scion thought they were going to sell twice as much xA's as xB's, but the numbers have been roughly 900 xB's sold a month compared to 450 xA's. Basically they had it the wrong way

The average buyer spends $1000 on accessories.

Sure, I'll try to scan it tomorrow at work on my break.

And the car in my avatar is a VX Corrado, my favorite car of all time. It's a love/hate relationship as it finds a way to break itself every other month, but it's a blast to drive. I have one sitting in my garage that needs a new block, supercharger rebuild, etc.

That's why I'm going for the Scion, I need something more reliable to get to class/work, but it would still be nice to turn a few heads

Thrilla....you gotta hit up Gary "Nish"..bra...he is well known in the islands...actually we were just talking about Matsumoto Shave Ice and Zippy's earlier too...

He just picked up a Hot Lava xB and I know that when the release them in Hawaii he'll be selling mad parts there...

Here you go HotBox, a little dub flavor for the Scion forums

And as far as giving it more love, I do believe if I gave it any more I'd probably have lost my gf
You'll find that Corrado owners are an interesting bunch. It's almost like a cult of enthusiasts driven to the brink of madness from these damned machines. There's a lot more in the vwvortex forum : http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=8

Oh and scioninla thanks for the heads up. It's nice to know Hawaii is getting at least one of the lava boxes! So he'll be bringing parts down here? If so that'll be awesome, because as you can imagine we pay an a$$ load in S&H here.

BTW, Matsumoto's and Zippy's... classic stuff.

You've obviously never owned a Corrado - the relationship he says is true ;) They're VERY problematic, but they're GORGEOUS cars Probably the best design VW ever made

I'm a member for VW Vortex also - glad to see some familiar screenames

A dealer by me [NY] said the same thing.

That's a lot of added cost to the dealer to pain it though... so I'm guessing it's going to be the same price + paint.

Hey when will Scion start offering this? And will you have it painted what color you want at the port or after it arrives at the dealership? I think I will just get one like this since I can't get that Hot Lava.
Thanks!

They haven't decided for sure if it's something they want to do...I saw a similar article a little while back.

They had one at SEMA, and are definately toying around with the idea of offering it for sale. It would be a little more expensive than a regular Scion because they have to do a different process with the assembly line to get it primered.....not sure how much more. If they ever release it though, I'm sure you'll see it posted here.

here's a pic of it:

i read about the primer, toyota might do it but it say it hard to get the car off the line before it hits the painting room and how they would do it with out all the dash and crap in the car, and its going to retail a little higher than a painted car.
