Default Break in period and few questions

I just got my 06. I am officially in the Scion club. The cool part about the Scion right now is you see heads turning when you pass by. That's cool. I do however have a few questions and hopefully you guys could answer them.

1. Is there a break in period of 06 tC?
My dealer sale rep said..... "Toyota has the engine broken in before it ever even is put in the car. Drive it as fast as you want to, there is no longer a break in period."

2. What is that amber light bulb in the front next to the high beam light call?

3. What is that small light bulb in the low beam call?

4. It look like it can can be replace from reading some of the tread. Can anyone point to me where or how to replace it?

Thanks for your help guys. Any answer would be greatful!

You bet your sweet ___ there is, your sales rep is full of it. There is a section of the owner's manual that tells you what to do.

1. Do not race the engine. Generally means try not to run it to redline.
2. Do not lug the engine. In other words, do not run in too high a gear for any given speed, for example, 5th gear at 35mph.
3. Do not maintain a steady speed for a long period of time. Vary your speeds, do not use your cruise control.

Do these things for the first 1,000 miles. After this, I'd get my oil changed, but that's just me.

We dont' have motors built by GM...
Figure 100 miles and your good.

I drove the car hard right out of the dealer and I have not had a problem yet. (6k miles, 3k of those at 74 MPH never varying speed, one of those trips was at 500 miles into car)

My dealer just said not to redline it and not to brake hard. Besides that, he said I could drive it to 100 mph if I wanted to.

yeh we might not have motors built by GM but they still need to be maintained properly...

you might not feel those problems yet, but you will if you intend to keep the car longer.....problems with breakin arise eventually

best thing i could tell people is do not drive at a steady speed for extended periods of time for the first 1000 miles, do not undergo hard accelleration for the first 1000 miles, with the exception that after 500 miles you should floor it every 100 miles ex. at 500,600,700....you should floor it - to open up and resettle the piston rings in the engine

happy sailing

Floor it after 500? Now that's something new. So your advise is to floor it every 100 miles after 500 miles until 1000 miles?

Here's another thing, I'm planning to drive a 300 miles trip this weekend. Most likely my car should be around 500 or a little less by Saturday. Any recommendation or just drive it like any other car?

Drive as normal, just vary your speed about every 20 or so miles and do not use your cruise control.

When you say vary my speed, what do you really mean by that? Should I drive at 90 and then go back to 70 every 20 miles for a bit? Or just change the speed and never put it at the same speed no more then 20 miles?

It basically means no highway driving, or if you do, make sure you are fluctuating yoru speed every 5-20 minutes or so. By fluctuating, we mean at least 5-10 mph difference. And you shouldn't be driving 90 mph < 1000 miles. That's just asking for trouble.

I personally would not drive a 300 mile trip on a car with fewer than 1000 miles, but that's just me. Other's will say it's okay, some will agree with me.

My baby went 1200 miles...that's when it was at 600. Stupid totalling my Neon and getting a job in Iowa.

Since January, I've put on almost 14000 miles, will be just over 15k after this weekend and probably 20k by the end of August.

^^^ hopefully you won't see any problems then later on in the engine's life (i.e. over the 100K mark), it'd be a shame to see you have engine prob's three years in (shameless poke at your annual mileage, hehehe)

How about my other question. I'm looking for the names of those light for me to figure out the exact lights to switch out. Example: Front side marker lights.

Default Nope

The law on head lights is about the same like other states. I think it all depend on the cops. What ever mood they are in.

Guess what boys? I decided to drive to Dallas from Houston. My car is at 540 miles, so all I did was to not to drive over 80 and never keep at one speed for over 10 mins. All together, I just got back and ended up at 1115 miles. The gas is awesome! Only cost me a half of a tank when I got to Dallas. I had a lot of heads turning and there was even a couple of girls asking me what kind of car am I driving.

I think Scion need to slow down making the TC now, since I just got min.

By the way, waxing your car first before you go on a trip is a good advice. It's a biatch waxing your car at 93 degree the day before but well worth it. I just got back, those bugs just flew off as soon as I spray on it at the car wash. I'm not really to use those d@mn brush that they have there.
