maybe i should do alot more explaining first before posting up all these pics. i've been researching on hidplanet.com for the longest time now... almost had it done by a 3rd party (350 just for labor), and have juggled several choices of projectors, bezel, exterior look etc. finally after daydreaming through finals week, i got together with my friend (blue rsx type s) and we did our retros together.

clearance (my main concern) actually worked out much better than i had expected, overall i wouldn't say it was too hard of a job. definately something that can be 'slapped' together easily but attention to detail will really pay off.

parking light mod in high beam (3x 10,000mcd white LEDs per high beam)

oh, and the leds are wired in parallel with each other, in series with a resistor to limit the current, in series again with an inline fuse (0.1a i think) just to be safe... they're spliced into the "city-lights" wire, which you can't see anymore but the hole is still there. i'll probably try sticking some super bright leds from superbrightleds.com in there to see if it'll glow through my bezel. i've realized that my bmw e46 bezel is actually semi-transparent... almost like it has a 5% or 1% mirror tint or something.

DAY SHOTS

LEDs close up

LEDs zoomed out

LEDs on (parking lights/first click)

money shot! (sorry i didn't have a tripod)

honda s2000 baby... worth every penny

more info & hopefully some better beam shots to come.

The projector looks hot... but do you have high beams anymore? B/c it looks like you just moved the low beam housing over into it's place...

Now THAT is an amazing cutoff line!!

Please elaborate on how you did all this. I'm afraid I don't fully understand the
changes made, and I'm curious about the cost. Your research and setup could
benefit A LOT of tC drivers who are just dumping HID into stock lights and
really making a mess of the road.

OMG I g0t teh HIDz0rs!!!1!

Seriously, this is a LARGE problem. But the HID bulb companies are also just preying on people for this crap. I'm waiting for a good set of projectors. Someone has to make them eventually. I heard someone was quoted over $1300 for a set off of hidretro.com. There's NO WAY I'd pay that much.

That looks great, but unfortunately the cost of it deters most of us from doing that. Therefore we settle (and I most likely will) for the cheaper HID setups, but of course nothing compares to the real thing. Looks hot!

Man, that looks great. I wish I can do that to my car but I don't know anybody in Housotn that can do that. I got a quote from HIDRetro, they want $1300 though. Yikes.

Please don't... just be patient and wait for something good to come out.

integsrtite... looks like you did an amazing job.

This is the one option that I have on my current car that I will miss the most... your job was very clean... Now that I know I can have it on my tC... I would like to know what your cost was, what is needed to do the job, what your time investment was and some directions if you have the time. If it can be done reasonably I would love to do this to my car too as I am sure many others would as well.

Again, great job!

i still have high beams, the projectors are in the low beams.
the only changes made to my high beams are LEDs hidden in the top wired to the parking lights

that's the first click. the projector is in the low beam if you look closely

my setup is actually one of the best (in my book) for the tc:
standard HID equipment that i already had
$250 - Hella Gen 3 ballasts (OEM) & Philips D2s 4100k bulbs (OEM)
$350 - Honda S2000 projectors from ebay
$300 - OEM 2005 Scion tC headlamps (optional)
~$25 - for resistors/leds etc for LED mod (optional)

as you can see, the meat of the project was $600 bucks if you can stand not driving your car for a week.
i couldn't so i got spare headlights. $600 is also with the top notch projectors.
an OEM quality HID setup can easily be achieved closer to $350 if done by yourself,
bmw and audi projectors are typically 100-150 for a pair.

when doing the setup you will hear many pops and snaps, if you get nervous, this isn't for you
i've gotten a few PMs so if anyone is interested, i could consider doing a few on the side but since i DO work 40 hours a week, don't expect me to be able to get to it right away ^_^, lets say... the cheapest setup will run you around $500 and the most expensive will be about $1500 (this includes labor but not ballasts or bulbs)

also, if anyone is local (bay area) it'd work out much easier since i have spare headlamps to lend you, process of swapping lamps takes about 30-45mins
oh and before anyone else asks if they can buy these off me -__-, keep in mind that
- i JUST put these in very recently
- have no intentions of parting with them
- parts alone cost me close to a grand (this includes the spare headlamp)
- AND my time is not free =)

i may make some minor adjustments to my setup in the near future, if i do, i'll take some more pics of the hardware BUT it is pretty concealed (that's the whole idea) don't want people seeing all the nuts and bolts now...

integsrtite... market this one right and you won't need to work 40hrs per week any more... $1000 beats the $1500 everyone is getting from hidretro.com. Once you have perfected the lights to your specifications and don't need your spairs any more, you can always throw them out on Ebay... someone wanting to do the same will snap them up from you quickly I am sure and you have some of your $$$ back.

Anyway, you did a great job they look as good as the ones in my Bimmer and those are factory. Thanks for the details, I may have to ask for this one for Christmas!!!

haha... my 40 hours a week are @ a summer internship, its a pretty chill and well paying job and retrofitting is more of a hobby to me... i still consider my spares a good investment since i can easily swap them in whenever i wana modify my lights. that way i can still see at night. it'll also be easier for me to do retros for fellow tCs in my area, they can borrow my spares while i work on theirs, etc.

thanks for the bimmer comment, i'm obviously trying to play off that look... next up, angel eyes? ^_^

thanks, high beams are DEFINATELY necessary... if you look at some of the beam shots i posted, you will notice that the light stops right at the cutoff, there is no stray light leaking upwards, so i guess the projectors are doing their job, no glare to oncoming traffic, these will light up the road as far as you can see but if you're doing mountain driving, you'll need your highs even more often than with the stock halogens... you can see everything to the side though... this beam is wider than stock, and i was pretty impressed with the width of our stock beam.
