Tc_and_Me 07-16-2005, 01:52 AM They have cleaner kits out for air filters. =] teksno 07-16-2005, 02:11 AM They have cleaner kits out for air filters. =]yeah but those cost as much as a new filter pretty much... dmikon 07-16-2005, 02:15 AM You spend $17k+ on a car and yet you can't dish out $10 once in a while to maintain it properly? I feel sorry for your car. surfcity40 07-16-2005, 02:33 AM you can get a k&n filter and clean and oil it. they cost a bit more but if you'd rather clean the filter than buy a new one, get a k&n filter or similar "one time" filter purchase. our car uses k&n filter #33-2300 unless you have a CAI, then you're on your own, and no, don't wash it. you can tap it lightly on a hard surface, but when air flow is diminished, it's diminished, regardless of what dirt you get out by tapping. it'll get a few more miles but no point, filters are cheap. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=33-2300 plus, you'll get an additional 1/2 hp, or so....i guess.... sciontc_mich 07-16-2005, 09:25 AM as you've probably guessed by reading all the response.. No you cannot wash out a stock air filter.. for between $10-20 at the scion dealer you can get another.. the only one that you can "Wash" is the K&N filter, with it's cleaning solution.. sorry someone made you t hink along the way that you could use a hose to clean out a factory filter.. they are not reusable, just throw it away and install a new one.. maybe you can invent an air filter that people can just hose down? there ya go that would be cool.. I_dont_know 07-16-2005, 10:16 AM You cant use the K&N filter cleaner. The K&N filter cleaner is for the cotton type of filter. . . not the paper filters you can buy at autozone. Fram (the orange boxes) are pretty dang cheap, so if cost is an issue, get that. And no, the K&N filter isnt the only one you can wash, most aftermarket filters that are used to increase flow are able to wash because of the cost to purchase them in the first place. AEM for example has a kit to clean the filters. oh, and its more than just washing them. You do have to wash them with a special cleaner, but then you have to oil them so that they can trap the more fine particles. gwtc 07-16-2005, 09:36 PM You cant use the K&N filter cleaner. I think we all know (or seriously HOPE) that you were joking, but in case you weren't, you should check where that intake pipe leads. . . yup, that's a filter down there! I_dont_know 07-17-2005, 04:12 PM tell your aunt to watch the autozone commercials. . . "when you have a dirty air filter . . ." cuz that is real retarded. B1uEsC1uEs 07-17-2005, 09:07 PM i was talking about the stock air filter for the stock intake. i was jus showing my CAI to prove that i didnt need a stock air filter. GENIUS :loser:  djct_watt 07-18-2005, 09:38 AM Yes, but stock or not you still need an air filter, stock or not. . . and you just said as you can see, i have an intake. no need of filters :ttth: :silly: No personal attack on you, but I really wasn't sure if you knew. . . you were the original person asking about washing a filter. And (because I guess your not incompetent) I wouldn't have to recommend you not to do any DIY maintainence. You see, had you not known, then you would have been the type of person who could do serious damage to a vehicle and void a warrantee. Here at SL, we like to look out for everyone. . . even newbies. And if you didn't know not to wet an air filter and that a CAI still had a filter, then it would be in your best interest to leave the maintainence to a mechanic. But you do know, so it's all good. BTW, be careful about flashing the :loser: emoticon. You're super lucky for not getting flamed like crazy for your question. I'm playing nice. As you know, it's a REALLY REALLY REALLY bad idea to wash your OEM filter. jaewon223 07-25-2005, 03:40 PM dont want to jack this thread, but was just wondering how often air filters had to be changed? im at 10k miles BrEaK_AwaY 07-25-2005, 04:43 PM dont want to jack this thread, but was just wondering how often air filters had to be changed? im at 10k miles when it appears dirty. just open your airbox up, take a look at the filter, if it appears to be dirty, change it out (filters are only about $5.00 for the oem replacement). |
