Hey......guys/gals with automatic xBs out there...........what is your gas mileage.

And I don't mean what do you THINK you're getting. I need numbers from people that reset their trip meter at the pump, use the number of gallons they fill the next time they hit the pump, and actually do the math. No estimates please.

So, if you've got the numbers on your auto xb, please post them........also, your driving style/conditions (rev high a lot, keep it under 3.5k rpm, mostly highway, mostly city, etc).

Any help here will be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are the numbers I've got:

The worst MPG I got was 28 MPG (90% city w/o A/C).
The best MPG I got was 35 MPG (90% freeway with A/C).
Regularly, I get between 29 and 32 MPG (city/freeway/A/C mix).
I notice a difference when I load up on cargo and/or people.

I am completly stock. I usually drive alone.
I drive nice and easy 75% of the time (rev up to 3500k rpm).

I usually fill up after 280-300 miles, just before the light goes on.
If I fill up as soon as the light goes on, I always fill up about 9.5 gallons.

So far I've driven 10,750 miles.

Hope that helps....

i only got 7880 miles on my xb auto so far, but i got it used at 1800
i drive around 3500 rpm and only get 22 mpg on streets

Hmm......thanks for the numbers guys. Stan.......you made me feel really bad.

Profecy......you made me feel a bit better. :P

Last time I checked my MPG under MY normal driving conditions (Las Vegas traffic, with my typical lead foot) my MPG was at 19.6. I couldn't believe how low that was.........so I decided to go a whole tank without revving higher than 3.5k rpm. That was a painful endeavor for me, as I get antsy when my car is accelerating that slowly............but regardless, I did it anyway. After that little experiment, my gas mileage went up to 23.2. Still not great, but an improvement. The only thing is.......I can't see myself driving like that all the time.

Right now, I'm in the process of seeing if I get any gas mileage gains out of my axle back straigh pipe system. I should have some info on that soon.

Anyway guys........if you've got the numbers, keep um coming.

I think 2 quick and easy ways to improve gas mileage are reducing weight and keeping an eye on tire pressure.

Do you have a lot stuff in your car? I notice when lugging around a bike, a girl, books, laundry, etc, my MPG suffers. I try to keep the car empty most of the time. I don't have extra speakers either. Also, heavy rims mighth have an affect, but I have no experience with that - yet

As for tire pressure, I keep my stockers at 30 psi. I check them often. I'm not sure how cold it has been in Vegas this winter, but I think cold weather can bring down the psi. Something like 1 psi per 10 degrees colder.

An empty car might give 1 or 2 extra MPG. Keeping the tire pressure steady should give an extra 1 or 2 mpg. That's 2 to 4 extra MPG! :D

how many miles are you guys getting per tank?

Kil, Iam getting around 26-to 28 in town, my worst was 21.2 going to LA up baker grade, my best was on the same trip running around LA 34. My last trip to LA this past weekend I got 31.9 average on four fillups, between, 4.5 gallons to 8.75 gallons. Bill

I don't think I've gotten 30 mpg yet. I've got a 32 mile commute to and from work and about 85% of it's hwy driving. I seem to be consistanly hovering around 28 mpg.
So far I've clocked around 1500 miles on my xb.

Anybody know how many miles til the engine is considered to be "broken in"?

Having around 1500miles I went to Pittsburg. I filled up on empty tank and got there and back with a VERY small amount of gas left when I got home. From my house to Pittsburg is 187miles so you do the math. 187 times 2 equals my best gas mileage. And I drive like an ___ most of the time which means lead foot...everything was stock when I made the trip & used 89 octane.

I've got an auto and I was consistently getting 27 MPG.

Lead foot, 75%freeway, Bay Area Freeway, so it's a mixed bag...

This last tank, I got 28.5 MPG, the only change being my Goldline Springs. Could they make a difference? Less airflow under the car? We'll see.

To be truly accurate, you should really keep a log and average things out over several tanks of gas...

Yeah.......I'm wondering if its not from my stereo setup. Those speakers and box are pretty darn heavy. Plus.......with drawing all that power......I wonder if that doesn't effect mileage too. I know my car feels peppier when all my equip is turned off. Dunno if I'm just imagining that or what.

It actually looks like I'll be getting an improvement from my straight pipe exhaust that I just built. That's only from looking at the guage and the trip meter. At my next stop at the pump.......I'll let everyone know if there's been an improvement.

So, i was concerned a little about my mileage, so i measured again. Last time i measured i had only had the car a month. Now that it's broken in (13500 miles), i figured i'd give it a go.
I drove economically. Easy on accellerations. I anticipated stops and coasted when possible (in drive moving up to stopped traffic). Occasionally, I had to exploit gaps on the freeway, but just once or twice. It wasn't really hard to drive this way as i thought it was going to be.
281 miles on 8.9 gallons = 31.57 mpg Yay :) That's up from 25.84 mpg last i measured!! Woo hoooo. I love this car a whole lot more now :P

This week I'm driving regularly and seeing what I come up with.

With just a bit below 4000 miles driven, I've calculated every fillup and my mileage has ranged from 28.5 to 31.5 - this is in So. Calif. driving a mix of streets & freeways, sometimes creeping through rush hour traffic, sometimes running 75-80 in light traffic.
Most often it has averaged around 29 mpg per tank.

Just put a new exhaust on, curious to see how that affects things.

I've clocked it since day one. with 10,000+ miles on the car I average 34 mg. Highs have been 39 mpg and the lowest I've received is 31 mpg, in NYC traffic. If you drive the car over 65-70 the mileage drops noticeably.

Also something no one has brought up yet is sea level. If you are at sea level you will get better gas milage then at a high alt. Why? At a higher alt. the air is thiner, so the engine needs to work harder to make the same power. Also if you live in a dry place compared to a place with humidity you milage will be better. Why? in areas with humidity that is high there is more water & oxygen mix compared to a area that is dry that has more oxygen in a same amount of space.

I just got my xB a week ago, I filled up at 240 miles on the trip O/D and filled it with 8.1 gallons. That comes to 29.6 mpg. That is done mostly on conservative city driving, it is hard to drive faster in traffic. Plus here in minnesota the put ethenol in the gas year round. that makes gas millage suck.

bone stock, about 1500 miles on the ODO, w/ yakima rakc and surfboard about 1/4 of the time. I'm in oregon, so this is a lot of mtn. pass driving to go surfing, etc. I've been getting around 29-32.

been driving conservative, but did make one trip to the coast where I was really on it up hills and stuff (w/ surfboard on rack ) and I think I got like 25-27. we'll see how things break in.
I don't see the reason to be flooring it all the time, the car just isn't performance oriented...

Well ... you can't be that exact. The trip meter and gas pump only read to the decimal (.n) place. The gas pump being analoug you could problably fudge it a bit a get many to the half (0.05) or quarter (0.25) ... but that does not matter because the trip meter only reads to the tenths place. So based on your cowputations you end up with 28.9. When you said 29 was close enough (actualy should have been 29. (to imply to the nearest mpg) - 29.0 would have been wrong)

I believe the brand of gas does make a difference:

I own a manual xB, however, gas brand does make a difference in my mileage. I drive a total 80 miles a day to and from work, and keep a calculator in the car to compute my MPG on the spot:

Chevron: Gave me the best gas milage overall using regular (32-35 mpg). Using Supreme, I consistently get 20 extra miles to the tank full...Mid Grade has given me little or no noticeable difference (0- .5 mpg).

Arco: Comes in a close second, about 1.2 MPG less than Chevron.

Mobile: 3.5 mpg less than Chevron

Shell: Same as Mobil

76: About the same a Mobil, however I also noticed some pinging when accelerating up a long hill in hot weather, which was not present with the other Brands of gas.

Costco: 4.7 less than Chevron, no difference using regular or super.

no air running and im filling it up so that the gas sits at the neck so its consistant.

im gonna switch to synthetic valvoline i think. un sure yet, oil changes come up fast lol and thats expensive.

i was getting 36.5 mpg from my civic ex 5speed. i had no problem getting 360 miles out of a tank and its the same size as the xb, 11.9 gallons. i can squeeze 325 miles out of the xb.

Auto xB, 2650 miles on it.

Fill tank between 250 and 270 miles. (rarely under 1/4 tank).

1 time lowest was 28.38 mpg. 1 time highest was 35.6 mpg (all hwy at 65 mph - flat). All other fills 29.7 -29.9.

Very consistent numbers for very consistant driving - I suppose. I drive 16 miles r/t foir work - six of those miles are on freeway - five times a week. One day a week I drive 80 miles r/t for a dog training class (canine agility - a story for Off-Topic Cafe). Fill the tank every 8 or 9 days.

From what I'm hearing. I'm having typical mpg for an auto xB.

Then I put in a hyper grouding system and Optima battery.....and got

25 MPG

Screw it, I'm not even gonna track it anymore.

The Fuel Ionizer and Grounding Kit won't improve your gas millage. Neither will the

Try a free-flow air-filter like the TRD Performance Air Filter
http://www.brandsport.com/trd-00602-17801-011.html

Or a Cold Air induction system
http://www.brandsport.com/toy-pts26-52040.html

And try switching to Synthetic Oil
http://www.allsyntheticsgroup.com/fuel-economy.html

And read these articles on "How to improve your gas mileage"

Finally got a reading for my Box:

255.7 miles on 7.795 gallons which equals 32.8mpg

This is filling up until one click on the pump and then returning to the same exact pump for one click again.

80-85% highway driving between 63-67mph, a/c on 100% of time, and taking it over 3k if needed (which I believe was one time this fill-up to merge into traffic).

I'm going to try it again soon and see if I can get 35+ and also just switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil

I average about 26-30mpg with 50/50 highway and road driving. I usually put the pedal to the medal when starting up from traffic lights and stuff. I like to get to the speed limit as fast as possible. I would probably get much better mileage if I accelerated at a normal pace.
