Default Mysterious smell?

i dont know if its me.. but when i got inside my car i notice a smell.. it smells like paint.. like someone spray painted something in my car and it still smells fresh. its not strong but its strong enough for u to notice. I dont know what it is. But its kinda scary, its hot outside of cali and im afraid something or some paint is like melting.. which is impossible... anyone know?

My car hasnt been in a paint shop nor theres no house near me thats getting painted... kinda worries me

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It most likely part of the new car smell that all cars have when they're new.
These smells can be ivery individual from brand to brand, some being very slight and some just awful. The weirdest new car smell I have encountered would be the one from F100 ford pickups and Broncos from the late 80's that were bought by a company I worked for in Wisconsin. It was a plasticky rubbery greasy smell that made me dizzy everytime I drove in those company vehicles. It was so strong that the smell lasted for over a year in those trucks even though they are used extensively.
Now if you smell something burning, then I would worry.

Brand new cars have an undercoating sprayed on the bottom of the chasis for some protective reasons, takes a few hundered miles to burn off, only thing I can think of :-\

My friend once spilled yogurt in his van and didn't know about it. By the time he realized it, the mildew had gotten under his carpet. nothing he could do. The smell was terrible. Smeeled like puke. We jus trocked it with the windows down.

i dunno sometimes i open my car and it smells a little musty. it might be the carpet or floormats, or something from under the trunk cover thing cuz the tire smells funny.

Maybe you just drove through an area that had something in the air, and it's just lingering.. hopefully it'll wear off. Do you have an inside Cabin Air Filter? The cars don't come with one but there's a thread floating around about how to make your own. The bracket is there, it's just for some reason Scion decided not to include the actual filter. This might prevent this sort of thing from happening again.

Oh, man!! I did that once! Ran over a plastic bag and it got stuck to my muffler, smelled like burning plastic for MONTHS!!

There's a space behind the glove compartment for a filter to go in, but I think for airflow reasons they decided to leave it out. They do sell a replacement filter at Toyota, but it's much cheaper to find the post here on how to make your own.
