HELP! 2006 Scion tC P0011 Cam Position (A) Timing over advanced
Ok guys this issue is driving me crazy.
Recently noticed a rougher than normal and also lower than normal idle. Sometimes on startup I can hear a
rattling/ jingling coming from Intake camshaft area. It goes away after a little while but still runs rough.
I can smell fuel coming from tailpipe which is more than normal.
I scanned ECM and pulled out Code P0011 Cam Position (A) Timing over advanced or system performance.
Heres what I have done and confirmed.
-Pulled VVTI filter screen and replaced it with new factory Toyota filter. The old one really wasn't that dirty or clogged.
-I also replaced the OCV for VVTI on back of cylinder head with factory Toyota valve.
-Changed engine oil and filter with factory filter and 5w-20 oil.
Symptom persists now i'm honing in on the VVTI actuator on the Intake camshaft.
I have a couple questions:
Is there a way to tell from looking at it that its either locked up or in the wrong position etc that would be a positive sign that its went bad?
Also have any of you changed the VVTI actuator without removing the front cover from engine?
In the Toyota FSM it shows them changing it and checking it with the front cover still installed.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
