Default brought my TC to the dealer and...

after hearing a ticking nosie and getting the ka-lunk nosie when i shift i went to the dealer
they had it for a full day

at the end they said:
(of course) they couldnt hear a ticking,
and the shift nosie is normal in all TC's

the dealer did say IF any thing breaks in the furture we now have records that you brought the car to us and we couldnt find the problem..like that makes me feel better
basiclly what that means is, when it breaks and you are stuck on the side of the road we will fix it then!!

i know some of you posted about these 2 issues
and i hope your dealers do a better job then mine

The click noise I hear, everyone hears.. it's normal for tCs. I don't know enough to explain it, but it's either by design or it's simply normal.

You have to understand dealerships are shops that run off of TSBs and common fixes. They are trained and knowledgeable and they probably had a tC come in for the same problem, and devoted a bunch of time to diagnosing, only to find it was normal, and now they know from experience it's a normal occurance.

Or they're being lazy.

and kind of a tapping or clicking nosie shouldnt be normal in a brand new car
if thats is really the case
Scion does/did a rush job on these cars
to me thats a sign of bad things to come at 30,000- 50,000 plus miles
no new car sound make noises like that
if the shifter nosie is normal i could let that go but a sound that seems like a valve tap should be over looked and put off as normal

You should hear the valves on my Yamaha motorcycle. Sounds like a freaking sewing machine. And yes, it's normal.

jerzey... is this your first 4 cylinder car? all four bangers click. go test drive any civic, sunfire, 3, cavalier, rsx, neon, matrix, celica, escort,... you get the idea. they all sound like that. it's not a valve tap. a valve tap is much louder. believe me, i've had a valve tap and it sounds like 2 hammers smacking really hard, really fast. i've been told 4 cylinders sound like that because of the timing. haven't looked into it, but it sounds right and i've driven my sunfire 231,600 miles with that noise, problem free.(solid little car)

if you really want to get to the bottom of something and the dealer tells you they can't find it.

TAKE THEM FOR A RIDE AND POINT IT OUT TO THEM. That way they know what gadunk or kaLunk or however you try to discribe the problem.

Lol. Different cars have different tolerance levels. Test drive any Jeep inline 6 (the infamous 4.0L). Those things sound like a damn type writer, the valve train is so noisy. My family has taken 4 of them well over the 200K mark without a single engine problem. Just because an engine has noise from day one does not mean it will not have longevity, or that it was "rushed" into production.

Also, the engine in the tC's is rock solid. It's the EXACT same Camry 4cyl engine, so I wouldn't worry about any noise they call normal. And like everyone else has said, 4cyls sound different than other engines there is a distinctive sound because of the timing of the engine.

I'm at 35,561 miles and it still ticks but not nearly as bad as my friends cavalier, infact its pretty quiet when its just at idle, all you can really hear is the fans

So almost at 36,000 miles and i still love my car!

i know all about vavle taps i had a 72 chevelle for years i re built it and raced it,
rounded out a cam due to a stuck lifter....

the noise i hear only happens at highwat speed 65plus mph
i understand the the 4 bangers make nosie, you can hear that with the car on and standing outside the car,

to me it doesnt sound like its the same thing at high way speeds

just any import or 4 banger i ever drove or been in doesnt/didnt make a nosie like that

maybe its just noraml nosie, time will tell

thanx for the replies on this!

Every Honda I've ever had clicked like a white guy snapping his fingers on the dancefloor.
