Default who has the K&N air filter?

just wondering if anyone here has upgraded their air filter to the k&n high flow air filter (~$40-$50) and what type of performance results you have noticed. i am about to install this myself as i know there should be at least some gains as far as torque and maybe a couple hp. just wondering what kind of results people have with this cheap but effective performance mod...

While I don't have it... from what I've read, I don't think you should expect to notice much. Maybe a little more throttle response. I probably would have recommended saving the $40 or $50 and putting it toward an intake. Either K&N or Injen maybe.

But like I said, I don't actually have it - so I'd definitely be interested if anyone has really noticed anything on this yet. Also, TRD has a similar filter that I think a few people have installed.

Is it weird for me not to want an intake but just the k&n filter? I just really really like how quiet my car is until I step on it and with an intake I know it will get a bit louder which I dont really want UNTIL I get an exhaust. I took out the top charcoal filter inside the airbox and I'll bet that freed up a little bit of restriction. I figure doing that and throwing in a k&n will make me a happy guy until I can save up for an exhaust system and other mods but for some reason I dont want an intake... yet anyways.

is there any sense to having both the intake and air filter? also i dont believe the trd exhaust does much in the way of power, although it does sound cool

You're correct, the TRD exhaust has zero performance gain. Many people buy it for the look and sound though. But there are plenty of exhaust systems out there from othe companies that do provide some performance gains.

As for the filter and intake... no, it doesn't make sense b/c you could not have both at the same time. The intake will come with a new filter and the old housing/unit will be completely removed.

I have one. But I didn't buy it in anticipation of any performance gains whatsoever. I had a K&N in my Mitsu for 8 years, and it looked good as new when I sold the car. I buy a K&N because it's the last filter I buy for that car.

It does however make the engine sound more pleasant above 4k.

while my old eclipse did seem to improve throttle response with a k&N and it was pretty cool to never buy another filter, i would say save the money for an intake ...
