Default CAI on auto vs manual tranny

just wondering if anyone has compared the effects a CAI (injen or k&n) has on an auto vs a manual transmission. i have an auto and considering an injen CAI. is it worth doing?

I have the 5speed and I dont feel too much of a difference. I lost a little power down low, but it makes up for it as soon as I hit 3k. I think it's worth doing if you can get a good deal on one. And it sounds

My daughter has an auto with the K&N. Yea, it lost some on launch, but at about 3k it opens up much better than stock, sounds great and looks great.

The CAi will help your engine breathe better which will help it perform better, regardless of the tranny bolted to said engine.

I have the Injen CAI and I didn't notice any loss down low and some good gains at high rpm, esp. noticeable while doing a pull from 60 to 80.

There's a thread going currently where the gentleman got .2sec slower 0-60 with a K&N Typhoon compared to the OEM intake on his auto tC. Not surprising, really.

If I remember correctly, he pretty much had one run before and after, so that conclusion was erroneously reached.

I thonk this is the thread he's referring to. Disregard the parts where some people don't understand the definition of a comparison

This is an old link, but the effect on the auto tranny has been documented. I wonder if the effect is similar with a short ram setup.

Given my experience with the Injen CAI, I'd figure an auto would have a little more difficult time, since you do notice some low end rev torque drop. But, the sound is half the reason to get it and the show factor is a nice touch as well.

You'll still get the fun lil' added pull at 3000+, so have fun and splurge a bit.

I've given up on the Dyno/0-60/BS stats around the board...

It will feel, sound, and look better than stock and that's all the really matters to the general tuner, rather than the hardcore racer. Live it up!

^^ Good points. I really cannot see why so many people dyno their car after adding a CAI. Spending a hundred bucks or so is a waste for finding out if you gained or lost a few HP, which you wont notice to start with. Any throttle response gains would be felt driving it, not on a dyno, so that is not being measured. But, then again, I guess it is a good excuse to go dyno your car
