Clear Bra Protection for TC with Ground Effects
Anyone know of a Clear Bra kit that will protect the Front spoiler part of the ground effect kit for my 2006 tC? I have found kits for the hood mirrors and bumpers. But no luck finding a peice for the Scion Ground Effects kit.
I am in the process of checking with XPel. .

I would never understand why unless they want you to get chips or the factory black bra?

I bought full a rock blocker kit from RB. There are no certified installers out near me, so I took it to my body shop that i've been using for years. I didn't mention Rockblocker, because I didn't know if he would know what that was. So I just asked him if he was capable of installing a clear bra. his response was:
"I wouldn't recommend putthing that on, because of a few things: 1) the edge will attract dirt and dust over time, and it will make the lines more visable. 2) the material will discolor with the sun over time, and will turn yellow. Look at the ford pickup trucks that used to have that stuff just in front of the wheel wells, and you'll know what I mean. 3) if we ever have to do body work underneath that stuff, it is a real pain to prep the surface. Then you have to rebuy the material if you want it protected again"
Now, please keep in mind. I am not bashing Rock Blocker, or *any* similar kind of protection. My point to posting that stuff above is I was just pointing out some of the "comments" I've heard in response to your question "why"
I feel pretty comfortable from reading the FAQ the only one of those that is likely to be true is #3.
I hear ya and I appreciate you bringing up some of these points. I would like to answer them as well.
1. The product will only collect dirt along the edges if you dont keep them clean, just any other part, molding of the car. They do not attract dirt or dust. That would mean static clean and I dont see that happening. Coming from the NW where is rain is often and a lot of dirt on the roads. I know that you have to make sure you clean the edges as you wash the car and occassionally take extra time along the cracks and edges of the whole car to get them cleaned out.
2.The material is guaranteed not to discolor or turn yellow, so IF it did the film would be replaced free of charge. The reference to the ford trucks does not apply here really since that film is a 12 mil not clear coated finish versus the 8 mil clear coated film we use. Same type of material but the characteristics are totally different. Since this film is clear coated if you wash and wax often the film will look as good as the rest of the car.
3. The film does not really cause any extra prep work for a body shop. Most body shops are still getting used to and understanding what the product is and how it works. Sure does it cause for more work, yes it does, but doest make the prep any harder. Sure if you ever had to have body work you would have to get it replaced, but your insurance company pay to have it put back on the car. It doesnt cost you or the bodyshop anything.
There are always two sides to every story or thought. This product has been around since 1992 and made from 3M ScotchGard. As I am sure we are all aware 3M doesnt make inferior products otherwise they wouldnt be as huge as they are today!!
The choice is always up to the consumer.
Again thanks for posting what you learned and hopefully you learned more here.

I meant to add in my previous post, that despite my body shops objections, I am still going through with the install. The only point they made that I found to be valid was the needing to be replaced if body work was needed. But that's just common sense. But that would apply to any accessory/product that got damaged in an accident: foglights, wheels, decals, etc.
