Radar Detectors
What is a good radar detector? I know a guy selling this one...http://www.escortradar.com/7500.htm but I have no idea what makes a radar detector good or whatever. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh he is selling that radar detector for $100 OBO let me know what a resonable price would be to offer him. Thanks!
You're gonna get a ton of "good detectors" from a lot of peoples opinions. I have a Whistler bottom/middle of the line radar detector. I got it on sale for $80 or so I believe. It works fine for me. Just as well as any $500 model can IMO. As long as it has VG2, radar, laser and all that mumbo jumbo, you should be fine. I know a lot are going to disagree with me on this, but my $80 one has saved me many times. Not ONCE has it missed something obvious. Just keep your speeds reasonable and get a decent detector and you're fine.

You can spend anywhere from $50 to $400-$500 on a radar detector. I believe Valentine's radar detector (advertised in Road & Track and Car and Driver) is like the mist expensive I have seen. (not sure if it's 500, but it's up there).
Many of them have different features like telling you witch direction the radar is coming from, etc. I payed 50 bucks for mine, bought it used from a friend. In the city it's a pain in the butt because any sliding door or building alarm system you pass can set it off, just about, because I leave it on highwaymode. Anyways, my detector beeps at me....I slow down, period. I've had it for almost 2 years and have not been stopped once, and I have a heavy foot!!!

if you want to make a 1 time purchase just go valentine 1. Saw a video of gumball 3000 where the person was using a v1 and it works well. Well 2 people using them. WOrks like a charm in my opinion.

399.99 plus shipping i believe.
Mine has all the stuff I need it to. Cost me $39.99 from walmart. It scans both X & K bands, has a silent mode + city mode. Detects radar + laser. Has VG2. So for the price, I could not pass it up. So far I have been able to find every cop it has alerted me to. The only problem is, if the cop aint scanning, then you wont know he is there
I have an Escort 8500 x50 and I love it. A few of my friends have the 7500 and they like it a lot. The reason I got the 8500 was because I was able to get a good discount on it when I worked at Best Buy. I don't speed that much, but I like to know where cops are so I can taunt Hondas and VWs into speeding...
j/k
As for the 7500, I see ebay auctions going for 140-180 for them used. I say go for it... The cops in Florida usually use Ka band...and sometimes Laser. Most X and K band signals are those automatic sliding doors and such.

I have a 8500 x50, with teh blue display... I have it wired into the car and hooked up to the zr3 laser shifter. It is fantastic. I got pulled over the other day and when the cop asked what teh problem was, he was like, your speed. but the beauty of it was that the radar detector didnt go off. AND he knew it, cuase his radar wasnt on. Needless to say that was a trip to court i didint have to make. BUy a good system. you get what you pay for, and anyway, the first time you dont get a ticket, even a expensive system has payed for itself.
i have the cobra xrs-9300. works fine for me. i also leave it in hw mode and it goes off where ever theres a sliding door. lol. but yeah, i like it. it has a bright display so you can see it perfectly in the daytime. i bought it at circuit city for 99.99. if you check the website itll say that it doesnt come with the mounting unit, but it really does.
