Did you know JET performance has a recalibration chip out for the 1nz-fe? Obviously none of us believe the $20 ebay crap but this is JET we're talking about. It costs $315 so it's gotta be doing something.

I have two of there chips and have had experience with other products from them. I think they are a good company, located down the street from me. I had them do a carb for our 58 and they had good customer service and the carb was awesome.

On non turbo cars, here is a list of things generic chips can do:



1. raise the rev limit (dangerous and usually useless)
2. bump the ignition timing curve (dangerous and may require you to use high octane fuel)
3. lean out the air fuel tables (dangerous and may require you to use high octane fuel
4. on autos, change shift rpms/shift hardness/speed (often very useful)


Most chips do either nothing, or slightly bump up the timing and maybe lean our the air fuel mixture slightly.

This usually requires you to use higher octane fuel and can even still be dangerous, causing long term damage to your motor.

The benefit for this risk at best is typically very very small horsepower bumps. On our 100hp engine I would guess in the 2-3hp range..

I Don't reccomend this. ECU tuning is useful when you have SIGNIFICANT modifications and get a custom tune where someone puts a wideband O2 on your car and dials it in. But these generic chips are at best usually useless and often dangerous.

Ya, that's the reason I showed you guys. I always thought JET was like one of the best chip companies out there. Too bad there is NO info on something that costs SO much.

Just stay away from modding the computer completely. If you have another computer thats plug and play, then ok. But to add to our computer would just be a can of worms if problems occured.

there are simply no wonders to be worked from computer tuning most modern cars, period. The ideal timing/fuel settings for gas mileage is pretty much the same as those for power.

On turbo cars, things get very different, since the ECU can usually raise the boost.

what about the jet v force module, for universal applications? Adjust timing curve, etc.,. Anyone tried installing one of these?

Honda cars still work alot of wonders with hondata tuning, most factory ecu's are tuned to industry safety standards for U.S. imported vehicles, and have alot of room to grow. I just dont know that these xB ecu's have much room left due to their small power plant needing all the help it can get to reach the numbers that they are stock. I believe that they are pretty maxed out as is, for the 1.5, might be able to squeeze out some throttle response, and torque, which is what i'm searching for.

Well i think that its wonderful that we all have such wonderful and different opinions on ecu tuning and its practicallity and effectivness. I am not trying to question anyones logic or their reasons for making there decisions but, of those whom stated things such as "useless" and not a good idea generally have had experience import, euro, domestic, with performance chips.

Personally, and from experience with a 2.0 liter single cam eight valve non variale timing engine the performance modules, my unit was from NEUSPEED, generally imporve performance.
