Default Got an email from TRD about supercharger & other questio

I wrote:
Hello I just bought a new 06 Scion TC and it came with a TRD exhaust system. I was curious if there was dyno info and does it actually add horsepower or just sound? Also wanted to know if TRD was going to develop a header for this vehicle? Last questions.....what is the ETA on the AEM intakes and the Super Charger? Four questions and desperate for the answers.

Thankyou for your time.

We don't publish dyno results because horsepower gain varies from one vehicle to the other. There are no plans to offer a header for the tC at this time. No ETA on intakes and end of this month for the tC supercharger kits.

They finally did email me back on horsepower on the exhaust @ 5-8 HP added to a stock TC.

I could believe 5-8HP if measured at the crank but definitely NOT at the wheels.

A muffler can't add horsepower at the crank...

5-8hp, crank..not wheel
they canned AEM intake awhile ago, and s/c is wasted money.....
im sure they have dyno results, but won't post do to lack of power

Actually if you want to be 100% ****, no bolt-on short of FI ADDS anything but frees up horsepower the engine is already producing. So Einstein, if they took the engine, strapped it to a dyno and hooked it up to the exhaust, it might produce 5-8HP at the crank. Power starts at the crank and is lost parasitcally through the drivetrain to get to the wheels. So why wouldn't you get horsepower at the crank? Maybe I didn't elaborate enough for you

If it's a pipe in there rather than a couple compartments then it will make about 5 or so whp. Have you ever seen the stock muffler? That thing holds back some power.

better air flow=more power
most vehicles from factory are made with restrictive components, gotta think of MPG, the less restrictive u get, lower MPG are

I'm just relaying what they said. I think freeing up 5 HP would seem about right. I really love the exhaust and the tone in produces so I just thought I would email them and ask some questions. As far as the intake personally I got tired of waiting and bought the K&N and a bypass valve from AEM.

Most stock exhaust systems are designed to reduce the noise an engine puts out. The reduction of ponies is a bi-product of the added back-pressure caused by the increase in chambers through the muffler that act as baffles to reduce the noise. The stock tC muffler has 4 chambers in it that severely restrict airflow, plus there's the resonator just past the catalytic converter.

If your on the "**** 100% correct" side, if the motor doesnt produce that higher HP it in the first place than your not freeing anything up. All your doing is making the motor run more efficiently, which in turn creates more power. That would be like saying, my tC makes 200hp stock I just havent freed it up yet. Soo...yes Bolt-Ons change power +/- usually +.
