Default O.K. I am in. It was not easy. (long story)

I am sure I am above the average age in here. boy did we flop our vehicle choice this time.

We have 3 kids and use our excursion for full family trips, towing and hauling. But all the kids are busy and we rarley go to one place all together. So the other day I am checking out the gas bills and figure my wife is burning $500.00 amonth in gas to take the kids to school, soccer and go grocery shoppoing...WTF!!

We are not cheap car enthusists, I refused to spend $60K on what we wanted because the kids trash everything. We have a 14 year old and I talk my wife into looking at the econo cars, telling her she only has to drive it 2 years and we will pass it on.

The first car we drive is this stupid looking boxy xb, I kind of like it but can not stop laughing at the thought of that thing sitting in my driveway. We drive and element and crv and go home. We finally get enough nerve to admit to each other that we both liked the xb, but prefer a different color than the one we drove. (Only one on the lot)

So the next day we head out with a list of 7 toyota dealers, figuring to come home with what she wanted. (Base, Auto, Camo or TCM) No add ons or extras as we are going super econo..

To our surprise each of the 7 had 1-2 at the most on the lot. Not one had the tranny/color combo we wanted. We don't NEED a car so we head home. I venture out that evening with a list of 4 more dealers. Basically a strike out, I was starting to get lucky if they even had one on the lot.

One dealer said they had none and as I was pulling out a delivery comes in with 3 on the truck. I take my chances but the TCM and camo were both manual, the other was a white auto, wrong color, and was pre-sold anyway.

The next day I venture into a different direction and hit 2 more dealers (Total of 13, only in SoCal). The last stop has a camo manual, a white auto and a black all dressed up. The salesmen gives me the typical line, "lets go see what is coming in." I am thinking "here we go again"

Turns out there is a base TCM, Auto in the service bay going through the dealers inspection. It just came in that morning. I had to take the floor mats and bumper protector, but both are probably good options for our useage...SOLD.

So now we have a TCM xb parked in the driveway wedged between our excursion and my GMC 2500HD. It is the most rediculous thing you would ever see. Especially considering we live in the land of Hummers, Suburbans, BMW740's, etc. My wife and I just laugh everytime we see and drive it..but we love it. Seems like every car should be like this.

I'm glad to see that you both were able to rationalize not needing the Excursion. Are you going to get rid of the gas guzzler or keep it around?

Welcome to the family!!!

No we still need the beast for full family trips and towing. We just didn't need it to run around the nieghborhood. It is amazing how effortless it is to buzz around town now.

I read in your post that you rarely go anywhere together anymore. I was just thinking, could you save money by towing w/ GMC 2500HD and driving the xB for carrying people?
That way when you get to where your going, you could use the xB? If your kids are grown up, they will be able to drive soon enough.

To bad the xB wouldn't tuck up into the HDs truck bed

Like I said in my first post, enjoy the xB.

Congrats.

Now update your profile to show that you have one.

Click the grey "profile" button at the top right of this page and then "Add or Edit Vehicles in Registry"

No the 2500 goes into the work fleet, I get the excursion. No big deal as I have only put 23K miles on the 2500 in 3+ years.

The milage will be a welcome feature. We knew the excursion was a POS the day we bought it. But they were basically giving them away with huge discounts and 0% for 60months. We needed a family tow rig and it was hard to pass on. It does it's job pretty well, it just is such a beast to run around town in.

Figuring gas alone. the XB will pay for itself in 2-3 years. That excursion with the V-10 gets 9 MPG on a good day. Yes 9 that is not a typo.

Yeah, My uncle had a V-10 Excursion, so I know your pain....

The Lowest MPG I have ever got in my xB was 29- which was 100% city driving, took me 5 weeks going back and fourth to work ( 8 miles round trip)

The BEST MPG was I ever got in my xB was 40 MPG. I took a non stop trip to California ( 400 miles / 9.99 gallons)

hah, I know exactly what you mean. My uncle is obsessed with Jaguars; he has 4 kids, and a few weeks after he gets a new one, the interior looks horrendous.

Yeah, I really wanted to get a nice beamer or something, but I cringe at having to peal candy and crap off the seats of a nice car.

Since I will be taking over the excursion, it is going to have to be detailed at least twice before I can drive it.

needanxb, I hear ya man. A year ago, I was driving a fully loaded Chevy Silverado LT 4X4 extended cab, and my wife was driving a Buick LeSabre! Today, I have an xA and she drives an xB. We couldn't be happier.
