Avic-d1
In order to make the D1 compatible with the steering wheel controls you need a steering wheel adaptor avalible from Crutchfield.com. It is made by a company called PAC. Only works on radios that have remotes. The D1 has plenty of features for controling of the sound, from sub, to SLA, EQ Treble, Bass, Loudness etc. As for an IPOD .. Get the Pioneer IPOD adaptor. $119.99 retail, it allows you to control the Ipod from the Pioneer headunits with a IP-BUS adaptor on it. Only thing with the D1 is that you can not play DVDs with it, however the video can be played while driving with an add on DVD player and a repinning of the harness.
The D1 is a huge investment, however it was well woth it to me (a tC owner). Depending on what you are looking for the D1 could be the best choice.. however from what I hear the eclipse unit is better in the video department.. The D1 has options for the stearing wheel controls and I-Pod compatability, however as mentioned before it wont play movies directly from the unit.. but a cheap DVD player can be mounted in the glove box or a slim PS2 ($99 at game stop) would be a better addition. Both units are easily bypassed, if that is what you're looking for..
If you are in the market for XM radio, the D1 offers a neat display for XM and the ability for NAVTraffic (but this shouldn't sell you on the unit). I'd say if you are in it for Navigation then you should seriously considder the D1. however if you are looking for something to play movies on the Eclipse unit may serve you better..
