(no, it's not gonna roll over...) truenfalse86 04-06-2004, 09:59 AM scions arent made for it. my advice would be to buy a real car. kwicslvr 04-06-2004, 11:57 AM scions arent made for it. my advice would be to buy a real car.Wjy this? What are "official" autocross cars? Any car can be made to autocross. With it's light weight and good handling it would probably make a good autocrosser. Tamago 04-06-2004, 12:00 PM heh i'd say the xA will destroy the xB in autocross.. one of the reasons i'm choosing the A over the B.. they'll be in the same class at auto X, so why take the slower one of the two? ghost 04-06-2004, 12:00 PM If you want to make your car an AutoX-spec vehicle, I would get new swaybars, adjustable coilovers, strut braces, and some sticky tires. Number one thing about autocrossing is having FUN! Andrew jenphoto 04-06-2004, 01:32 PM I would contact the club with which you plan to autocross and ask them if the xB is eligable. The club my husband races with does not permit SUV's of any type, modified or not. Unfortunately, our xB is classified as an SUV. Not in my mind, but that was how it was listed on the title. superjeer 04-06-2004, 01:56 PM you've got a bad title then They are a sub compact wagon. There's nothing SUV about them. seriously, I'd get that fixed, the savings in insurance might be worth the trouble. ghost 04-06-2004, 02:01 PM you've got a bad title then They are a sub compact wagon. There's nothing SUV about them. seriously, I'd get that fixed, the savings in insurance might be worth the trouble. Indeed! SUV's typically have more than the scion for ground clearance, are RWD, AWD, or 4WD, and have crazy women on cell phones driving them. Scion is a wagon/hatchback. Andrew iamslow 04-06-2004, 02:03 PM theres no real auto-x car. some are just better from the factory than others. but I'd get sway bars and a rear strut bar(if they make them...) Put the front on if you want to test it out but if theres still oversteer take it off and try it out. I think thats how it works for some FWD. Oh and coil-overs will help some. Just get to it handle like its on rails. Its a contest of going the fastest around a course which I bet the short gearing might help with. Tamago 04-06-2004, 02:33 PM just to let you know... the xA will most likely be in the same class as the 1.6 CRX's etc.. you have no chance lol but yeah, it's all about fun. if you're serious about winning in your class, the scion is not the car for you... the more modified your car becomes, the harder it'll be to win actually, (unless you don't tell the SCCA about all your modifications, and they'll put you in a lower class).. let's say you throw on springs and swaybars, and stickier tires.. you now get thrown in Street Prepared.. with all the other 1.5-1.7's on springs and swaybars.. that includes miatas, MR2's (MKI) Civics, CRX's.. and the Mini Cooper.. BCS 04-06-2004, 02:43 PM About a week ago I went to an autox in my xA. The handling was surprising. This was actually the first time I have ever tried it. I got a totally different perspective of driving. Anyway, I was probably at about 75% of what I could have been doing. I was in second the whole time, and the car has excellent throddle response coming out of the turns. It's a lot of fun. With just minor upgrades, you can make almost any car be decent in an autox. I was still running on the stock tires, and I know that if I changed those, it would have been a little quicker. There wasn't a lot of body roll. (I had my runs video taped). All in all, just have fun. You're gonna get addicted though. :D Thirty-Nine 04-06-2004, 02:51 PM I would definately check with your local auto-x group before entering an xB. They might not allow the xB to race. Heck, there were some people over at echofans.net that said that some groups wouldn't allow Echos to enter. Just check first. I have seen Suzuki Aerios, Chrysler PT Cruisers, and Ford F-150s autocross before, though. Toyota_Kitten 04-06-2004, 04:33 PM scions arent made for it. my advice would be to buy a real car.Wjy this? What are "official" autocross cars? Any car can be made to autocross. With it's light weight and good handling it would probably make a good autocrosser. I CAN PROVE THIS!!!! i autocross my RAV4!!!! yes... its a perfect autocross car! everyone tells me to get a real car.. then they see my autocross my rav and i make them shut up! ignorant people ^____^ ha ha i love being on of those 'WTF?' racers, makes jaws drop This pic was taken b4 the new koni shocks front and rear ASbs, and upper strut tower bars were all installed. the only suspension mod i had at this time was H&R lowering rally springs. and it still di very very well. now it doesn't sway as much as it did in that pic, so it rox now! Tamago 04-06-2004, 04:49 PM what class does the Rav go in? xBizzle 04-06-2004, 08:43 PM You'd be better off if you could disable the "electronically controlled" .77g lateral limit. I think it's the DSC, but not sure. With wider tires and larger wheels, you'll be bouncing off of that all day. I'll bet it looks funny, the box leaning and squealing around corners. I'd definitely enjoy watching something like that. cmanworkz 04-06-2004, 09:21 PM no scion is "made" for racing. truenfalse86 04-07-2004, 06:06 AM seriously, you people that think scions are made for speed, balance and handling are pathetic. im ashamed to even be on this board because people talk out their asses. "oh i race my xb... scions are racecars" be prepared to be smoked. have you any idea that serious tuners laugh at you for your insignificant mods? oh wow a momo shift knob... now im gonna go autocross my AT box... go for it. but its you that give scions owners a bad name. im and mr2 owner but ive bought the xb for its functionability as well as the fact its good on gas. if you want a quick car, buy a quick car. have you noticed the xb/xa is so good on gas because of its engine size? maybe its that way for a reason. kwicslvr 04-07-2004, 08:20 AM seriously, you people that think scions are made for speed, balance and handling are pathetic. im ashamed to even be on this board because people talk out their asses. Hmmm. People said Civics aren't racecars either at one time. Will and xB win a national auto-x title? Probably not, but who cares? If you're having fun, that's what's important, and if you're "ashamed" by this behavior, I think it might be you who has the problem. Just my dos pesos. Mr_scion 04-07-2004, 06:40 PM Hmmm. Wow - dude - relax. Slowwwllyyy reach for that bottle of Paxil and take your daily meds, will ya? If you're ashamed of being part of the high quality people on this site, then please do us all a favour and look elsewhere. Your comments may be your own opinion, but you're insulting and way out of line... A car doesn't have to be a "race car" to have fun racing it. Autocrossing is an affordable, accessible way for common schmoes to have fun driving their common cars in competition without spending their equivalent of a year's salary. A lot of the members here are in their teens and early 20s, and for many this is their first or only car. Who's to say they shouldn't be able to take what they've got and go have some fun??? No one's stated here that they're going to thrash every WRX STI and Ferrari at the event. And to challenge your statements, I think you'd be pretty surprised at what a set of springs, shocks, sway bars and sticky tires will do for this car's handling. I've certainly embarrassed several "more impressive" cars in nearby canyons myself in my xB - from a Mini to a vintage Austin-Healey roadster to a Mustang GT. jdmtoybb 04-25-2007, 10:08 PM could'nt have said it better myself Boxoffice! The people here are in fact real nice and classy from what i can tell so far, not many haters :ahhghem!:. All i have so far is s tech springs soon to be a rear sway bar i want to see how well this thing will corner, which my guess is will be great.I plan on building it to outhandle my and all my friends' 200 plus HP Hondas, lol. Surprise some people like truen, haha! xBigJefe 04-25-2007, 10:33 PM I race Class 11 (Off-road)... Some people may say "A 1973 VW Bug isn't going to survive a 1000mile off-road race in Mexico" and they are probably the same ones saying "Scions shouldn't be raced". To that I say, if it has wheels, there should be a race for it... be it a barstool, lawnmower, or grocery store scooter. Any jack-hole can go out and buy a STi and call themselves a racer, but racing should be about skill and not equipment. Personally, I think it is more fun to finish in the middle of the pack, seconds behind the winner and seconds ahead of the loser, than it is to spend a god awful amount of money and smoke the field. Unless you are getting paid to win, you should be out there to gain knowledge, make friends, and have fun. sunb1rd 04-25-2007, 10:41 PM I race Class 11 (Off-road)... (Granted, there were only five cars, but it's still third! LOL) Tamago 04-26-2007, 02:06 PM THIRTY-NINE, how did you PAX? Thirty-Nine 04-26-2007, 03:50 PM I had a PAX of 0.805 (DS?). I placed 38th out of 80 overall (indexed). Tamago 04-27-2007, 01:51 AM Yeah the second one was what i was looking for. why are you in DS? that's not where an xB goes .. Thirty-Nine 04-27-2007, 02:36 AM I'm not in DS, I'm in STS (I thought my index was a DS index, but I'm probably wrong). I just know my index was .805. camo_whip 04-27-2007, 04:01 AM Yeah, im with boxoffice and xbigjefe...having fun racing is whats important reguardless of what u drive. Besides, i think people would have respect for someone who made their scion noticeably faster just for the fact they went with what they liked and aren't one of the billions of people with a tuned honda/acura. kustom_play 04-27-2007, 12:06 PM I would contact the club with which you plan to autocross and ask them if the xB is eligable.
