Default Short Shifter installation question

I just installed my CC short shifter earlier. The throws are freakin' awesome! I was afraid it would be a little too short for my liking, but it feels pretty damn good how it is now. Just need an awesome counter-weighted shift **** and I'll be a happy guy.

Anyway, I followed the installation that was posted here on SL. Using the tool to remove the little white cup at the bottom of the stock shifter, I did it the same way as described -- hold it to the ground, put my feet around the tool, and pull for dear life. I was able to get it off, but not without leaving a lengthy crack along the side of the cup. It's not cracked to the point where it would fall apart in my hands or in the base of the shifting cage where the stick is seated, but the crack is very noticeable. Should I be worried that it might break over time? I mean, it sits in that assembly in the bottom of the cage, and it isn't moving when it's covered and held in place like that.

...I didn't have to jab the cap onto the end of the stick; it slid on just fine after a lot of grease.

Using my quick MSPaint skills, I'll use a picture from the tutorial and draw a line where the crack is running:

Should I be worried at all?

If I were to replace it, where could I get one? I don't think Toyota would carry it, would they?

sure they would. I would get in touch with Ken from TRDsparks. I'm sure he will help you out. If you try your local dealer they might give all the warrenty b/s.

Im sure you could get it from your dealer with no problem concerning your warranty, but its unlikely youd be able to get just the cup. Most of the time little parts like that wold require you to but a whole assembly like a replacement shifter which sux but thats how it goes. I doubt youd run into any problems with a crack like that though. I dont remember off hand but doesnt that cup get inserted into another piece that captures it completely? If so it wouldnt crack any worse than it is now and wouldnt cause any problems.

magnetic, question:

Did you use the purple circle things that come with it? I've had it sitting here for a few weeks but haven't gotten aroudn to the install.

What are they for? raising the shifter a little bit?

Yeah they're for raising the height of the shifter cage. I didn't want to install them for my setup. It was raining when I installed my SS yesterday and I wasn't able to park my car inside the garage. Haha

Speaking of which, anyone know how to put them in? Flat side down or up?

Flat side down..the lip is to center the risers into the shifter base. My B&M came with them too, but I used the stock ones to make the shifter sit a little lower.

My "shiftknob" doesn't tilt to the left. It kinda hangs to the right. Being right-handed and all.

Oh! You're talking about THAT shiftknob. No, it's still pretty straight.

Oh they gave me that tiny chrome shiftknob with the kit, but I just roll with the stock **** for now. Washington's getting colder with the rain and whatnot. I'm saving up for a weighted shiftknob.
