my tc got wrecked today-i'm just trying to find out a couple of things-i'm not sure if insurance things are different from state to state, but here goes:
the aftermarket parts i put on my car-i might be able to get some of the stuff out, like the head unit, speakers, and other little things. the sway bars, the catback exhaust and all that stuff will be much harder. the amps in the trunk and sub are also gonna be hard to get out cus i can't get into the trunk anymore. everything that i can't get to, will the insurance company cover me on my cost for those parts? would i be better off having my mechanic try to rip everything out before i call the insurance company? thanx for any help anyone can give me. i gotta figure this out kinda soon-i need to get the insurance company involved and get a new tc already.

I'd get everything you could.. State Farm only offers $1000 in aftermarket damages.. maybe more if the car is stripped and the parts are stolen.. but I'd say get all you can as fast as you can because they wont cut a check untill the car is in their possesion.. also if it was the other persons fault, their insurance is responsible for returning everything back to the state before the accident. So if you got hit.. tell them to cash you out for what you have reciepts for and take what you dont.

no one else was involved. i was driving down the street and a Long Island Power Authority utility pole fell right on top of my car. a 65ft f-in pole fell right on top of my car. i have progressive for insurance, but the police didn't even put it down as an auto accident. they have it as property damage. unfreakin real. the thing missed cracking me head open by like 3 inches. the cop said that if a passenger had been in the car, they'd be dead, if i hadn't swerved, the thing would've fell on my head, and i'd be dead.
take everything you can and put the stock peices in its place. you dont have to put them in the right spot but. if your gonna get another tC and want to use the same parts on the new one. IE. if you can take the exhaust off the wrecked one and put the stock exhaust in the back of the car. or put the stock radio in the car. BEFORE the adjuster comes and takes pics of the car. but unless you have reciepts and if your lucky and the parts get accepted by the insurance company. you wont get anything from them. when i got in my accident i had a receipt for my window tint and i was told that i cant get reimbersed for it because not everyone wants window tint and it might not be the legal limit *which it was* my response was. who is going to want the car its totalled. but w.e i dont care about that car i got a new/better one so.... well good luck with your situation and i cant stress it enough CALL YOU INSURANCE COMPANY OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE TAKING CAR OF YOU BECAUSE YOU STILL HAVE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON THE CAR TILL ITS ALL PAID FOR AND DONE WITH. just stay on their a$$ about it. but im sure you already knew that. lol im just tryin to help. (i hope you got gap too) but glad to hear your ok and again im sorry about your car.
it fell on your car? or you hit it?.. I'm sorry to hear that.. Cool to see that you're fine and already wanting a new tC.. if you do take off the parts replace them with stock asap.. good luck

It doesn't matter what's on the car, parts-wise. Until you sign over the title, the car and everything in it are your express property. If you're making payments, then it goes you > the lienholder > the settling insurance company.
Regardless of the settlement, buy the car back. It will take $500-700 out of your settlement, but you will get to retain the vehicle, take all of your parts out, and sell the rest to get loot for your next car.
Oh, and definitely, absolutely contact you insurance company and file a claim immediately. They can take care of virtually everything. As mentioned earlier, I sure hope you had GAP-- if you did, you'll actually come out ahead.

i didn't hit the thing. it fell right on top of me as i was about to drive by it. crazy, and definitely no way they could even consider trying to blame me. all i did was drive. so i might be able to do this without going thru insurance? i was hoping that i could-my insurance is so expensive already. crap-i gotta check if i have gap insurance. anyone know if that's included with full coverage, or do i have to get that extra? also, i can buy the car back? i already spoke to my boy at the dealership to get me a new tc-this one hopefully is coming with the SC, leather, and everything else. stupid long island power authority almost killed me today. i should go with a bat to their offices and start cracking their skulls open. i'm gonna have lawyers deal with it, but this is something that could technically drag out over 3-5 years. that's why i was going to go thru insurance-i can't wait that long for a new car. i was told by the body shop that once the insurance adjustors came down and took pics of the car i couldn't touch it or remove anything. that's why i'm trying to figure out if i should just go get everything out or just leave it if they'll cover me for it. if it's only a $1000 coverage, i'm gonna go get everything-the ddx cost that much already. this really sux.
someone please correct me if I'm wrong.. but if the thing fell on your car it is the fault of the power company. They should have insurance for this type of thing because if it were to fall on a house it would cause more damage.. if anything it will take time.. If it fell on your car how did it turn out as property damage?
oh... and don't worry one bit about it dragging out more then a few months.. they'll want to buy you out of it quicker then I'm going to get my exhaust. your insurance may or may not go up.. but it isn't about your policy now.. it is about how quickly it is dealt with..
I'd sure love to hear how this ends..

i spoke to the guys at the toyota body shop this morning-here's what the said as far as my parts go-leave everything in the car-if i have receipts for it, which i do. when the claim adujstors show up, they'll tell them that i have all this extra stuff in the car-if they won't cover me on it, then the body shop will have me come down, take my stuff out, replace it with the stock stuff and then have the insurance people take pictures and total the car. the body shop is working with me at least. i could just file suit myself, but i don't wanna wait years for this to settle out-i need a car, i need a new tc asap. my insurance company is gonna end up handling the lawsuit. they said it's a property damage claim which will go under my comprehensive insurance because another person's property damaged my car(i have no idea why the cops put it down that way-but who am i to argue?) since it's comprehensive, it'll be much better for my car insurance rates supposedly.
Since the accident was not your fault, it shouldn't affect your insurance premiums. Definitely get your insurance involved immediately; they can go to the trouble of recouping expenses from the power company on your behalf. That's what you're paying them for.
As for the extra stuff in your car, the body shop's right -- once the car is under evaluation by the insurance, you can't remove any parts from it, even if they're aftermarket. Best bet is to document everything and submit receipts -- or replace with stock parts before the insurance adjuster comes to look at it.

these are pics from my phone i took at the scene.

i'm surprised the roof didn't entirely shatter on me and that the car wasn't crushed. they told me that one of those poles weighs well over a ton-65ft of solid wood. i looked at one of them-i couldn't wrap my arms around that thing-not even close. it bounced right off my car and onto the street.

Dude,
Let us know how this finally ends. I'm curious how the utility company will compensate your insurance company, or you. Shoot, I would look into some sort of threat of personal injury too!! This is unbelievable, and if what you say is true, I'd get a new tC totally tricked out, and have my insurance company present the bill to the utility company. As long as you don't have a LAME insurance company lawyer, you should come out on top!!
