Default Wierd Burning Smell IS BACK!

Ok it comes it goes I don't know WTF it is. I don't drive my car much, i have 05 tC with only 8K on it and it's a year old bought it in october 04. And ever since the day i bought it...it smells wierd! like after i park or if i am sitting at an idle with the vent on. You smell this faint burning smell, it's wierd...almost like rubber but no.
I am getting kinda worried or if i should even be worried about it i dont know. Anyone else experiancing this in their 5speed tC?

Some people say it might be beacuse you brake hard, which i do sometimes, and some people say it might be the clutch, Sometimes i do mess up while driving other then that the shifts are perfect and there is no bucking during shifts. Also the grab point hasnt changed in the year i have had the car..just in case you were wondering.

WHAT COULD IT BE??

My box is brand new, and the same applies here. I have no clue what it is, and it is down by the rear passenger tire. It would'nt surprise me if it were the rubber exhaust hangers.

I know exactly what you are talking about, but I don't have a clue what it is. It is coming from opposite side of the car as the transmission though for me so I am leaning away from it being the clutch. My car is a month and a half old and has 2500 miles.

The clutch has a fairly distinct smell to it, so it does'nt sound like that's the culprit.

And you are kidding about not know ing what the rubber exhaust hanger is right? Right?

The e-brake area is warming u because (most likely) it is above the tranny, and [erhaps the exhaust piping too.

Now back to the smell, maybe we should send this one to Scion.

When I first noticed this last week I thought that maybe it was because there are brand new tires on there.

The dealer can't fix an obvious rattle that I pointed out to them as we drove down the road and the tech acknowledged.....a "smell" is way above their level.

Man, I geuss we will have to be the geniuses then. Is it possible that Scion owners are the smartest people on earth? Probably not, but were gonna have to act like it to figure this one out. I'm calling NASA.

"NASA, we have an odor."

This is so embarassing. After all this talk from car guys (including myself), and not being able to figure out this problem geuss who tells me what it is? My girlfriend! She can't even change oil, and she knows what it is. It's some plastic underneath the car that is supposed to be removed at the dealership from new cars. Her mom had the same problem on her new Corolla. They drove it, smelled it, located it, and removed it.
Good luck everyone, and I reccomend printing this thread and taking it to the dealership. Our dealership is Panama City Toyota (850) 769-3377.

WELL CRAP! I will wait until my next oil change and bring it up.

THANKS!

Any clue where this so called Plastic piece is located underneath the car?

None whatsoever, and I imaging it's different for all cars. Im gonna take a look at it when I change my springs next week, but I drive a box. Good luck, and like I posted earlier, you might want to have a copy of this post handy.
