This just in, from the lips of Corporate themselves to your ears. You are the first to hear this – so be privileged.
Scion is releasing a Comic Book. That’s right. After careful review, they are coming out with comic book characters to represent Scion.
For the xA, we have “xActo”. He sports a mean looking Yellow xA (like LJ’s car).
For the xB, we have “xBmc”. He sports the Orange xB (the Pioneer 5-star axis xB).
For the tC, we have “tCya”. She sports the Absolute Red tC.
Now, as a sort of promo, tCya will be there at Scion Exposed in Dallas at the Texas Motor Speedway from 1p – 3p to sign autographs. We figured that would be the time most of us would be showing up anyways. Anyhow, the idea for her is to promote the comic Book.
Now, info on the comic book...
Every Scion Owner will have one in their mailbox by the 1st week of December. They will raffle some off (the Prototypes) at the Exposed Event on Sunday. You should start to see them on our showrooms by the new year.
Also, tCya will make a debut appearance at Club Che the night of the Pre Party. We will be giving away 10 free copies of the comic book that night as well. I will shoot an e-mail across to you a little later on to show you the comic book characters, that is, if any of you are interested....
Remember, you heard it first from tSR (team Scion Richardson).
Later!

If you want to email it to me, I can convert it.
Am I the only one that's not surprised that tCYa is a she? hehehe. J/K
from what I know right now, tCya's character is gonna be a girl set up like you see here with GREEN hair and her little cap like that.
Her "actress" who depicts tCya will be at the Pre Party. From what I know of tCya in real life - she's this 5'4" Asian that is supposed to look like the picture.
For the Pre Party, she'll blend in (except for the Green Hair) and for the Event, she's supposed to dress just like the picture.
More than likely, the character's genre will change throughout this campaign - but maybe we can expect photos as well as commercials or billboard ads of this new thing Scion is doing.
I believe in the advertising that Scion does - how it stands out - so I believe this is gonna work for them. Let me know what you think.
That gallery link kinda smushes the pic or is it my browser?

If you read Max Boost cartoon in the Import Tuner magazine, they already feature an xB as Max's ride (and an AE86).

I think its supposed to be the Kaminari kit, at least that is how it strikes me. The art is just horrible, thats all there is to it. just look at the xB, the 5axis xB has a chopped roof, yet the windows in this one are LARGER THAN NORMAL

alright alright alright....
from what I can read, EVERYONE has a way different opinion of what this is all about.
yes, the artwork is sort of just - I won't say crappy - but the lines on all the cars were not supposed to be definitive - this is not a video game for your xBox - so expect it to be a little rough.
The main thing is that people get the jist that Scion is catchin on to the Max Boost idea that Import Tuner has had for years.
I wouldn't think of it as a representation for Scion but more as a chapter of their advertising campaign. They've done the weird transformer commercial for the xB and xA - they did that little jet fighter chasing the tC down the freeway - so why not do a cartoon?
Let's see how creative your minds are on this topic - if you had the chance to create your own Scion ad campaign - what would you do?? cartoons? music videos? honies dancin all around you in your ride?? If you had the budget of Scion/Toyota - what would you run for say 3 months??

This sounds cool. I am a comic book collector (yes, I am a geek) so this will be one more book to add to my collection. Probably won't have much of a story but it will still be a good novelty item. Scion Rocks!

LOL.. You know what though.. I bet whoever made this idea.. in the long run.. they most likely already do or will make more money than most of us. If any of you have a business mentality you would realize that Scion and Toyota are very smart. I give props to the business men and women who may have come up with this idea. It is a good way to either make some money or test the water. Either way.. regardless of art.. give it a chance, then talk your little 2cent garbage ;)

First and formost, I COMPLETELY agree with you about not talking smack. But I just wanted to remind you that Toyota is great as a Company, and running things efficiently (which results in lower costs and higher quality). However, be reminded that Toyota's marketing department isn't exactly stellar. . . prior to Scion, the median age of buyers was soaring, and the created the Echo to address this problem, which was a stellar success (I'm being sarcastic). Furthermore, diversification seems to do little for general profitability. Reinvesting in R&D is far more productive in the long run than risky advertising campaigns (as opposed to proven forms). . . and this example is nothing more than a risky marketing ploy. If it is successful, then kudos to Toyota, and money well spent. If not, then it's a complete waste of money. But I wouldn't go so far as to herald these people as geniuses.
Toyota is also known for hiring lame-duck Japanese advertising companies to come up with ads that look good to the Japanese and HORRIBLE to the US. We've had such REDICULOUS slogans as "for everyday people." Most people will interpret that as boring, and look at the general emotion that most Toyota's evoke. . . boring. Toyota had launched a TERRIBLE slogan campaign for the Celica. . . "looks fast." In fact, Toyota has changed slogans more times than I can count within the last decade. Yes, the domestics run a cruddy company, but their ads people know what they are doing. "Chevy; like a rock." "Built Ford Tough." "BMW: The Ultimate Driving Machine." Now the Lexus ads of the early 90's were genius. "Got Milk" is genius. Advertising/marketing success is dictated by its effect on sales . That's the bottom line.
Finally, the amount of money you make has very little to do with your intellect. I'm no left wing fanatic, but most of us would admit that George Bush is pretty damn stupid. BTW, his net worth is more than most of the people on SL put together. I don't think of him as a complete idiot, but I don't think he's GOD either.
But I agree with your point that we should be careful who we criticize, minding who we are relative to who THEY are.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Toyota is trying too hard with the comic books and the rap concerts and hyping the "tuner lifestyle" and the assorted "youth" marketing schemes they have come up with the reach 23 year olds who live at home and spend their nights getting stoned and watching cartoons.
They pay their agency a lot of money and they are all smart. And to be honest, it's working, Scion's are selling like crazy. I still think it's corny and sooner or later if they keep coming out with corny stunts like this Scion will be the brand for tuner wannabe's, comic book dorks and white people who think they are hip hop.

They did something similar to this when the tC launched, they had the cartoon on the tc launch website. Also, they had a comic book printed to king of pump up the Celica but it didn't work out too well.
I think this looks pretty cool.

Whoever noticed that the TC didn't have a glass roof - good eye! The pictures posted are of the prototype and will not be the ones you will be getting. There are only 10 of the actual prototype comic books in existance with the mistake in them. I have #3 of 10. There's going to be a lawsuit if Toyota goes through with this:
http://www.needcoffee.com/html/dvd/scion12.htm
CrossGen comics could use the money, I guess...
SirScion
11-16-2005, 04:31 AM
nawh, I dont see how there could possibly be a lawsuit. Scion is not the name of the comic, the name of the comic is Urban Legends. the Scion Comix Series is using the name as refering to the cars, therefore, they are still in their copyright boundries. NOW, if they called the book itself SCIONS...THEN there could possibly be a lawsuit.
ShadyStyle
11-16-2005, 04:53 AM
The thing is that Toyota has trademarked the name "Scion" so they can use it all they want. The comic book Scion is not a trademarked name. If it came down to it though, they could just call it "Scions" with that "s" added at the end it makes it a whole different name. But I know that they are not using either of those as previously stated by SirScion.
