At the end of the poker run at Avondale Scion Kenneth (KrAzY-ScionCE) had his PW xB's hood open. I peeked in and asked "Oooo, you got the YDR intake in there huh?". His fiancee immediately turns to him "You got an intake? When did you get it? How much was it?" and you can just see an "UH OH" on his face. I tried to salvage the situation by telling her that the YDR is sooooooo much cheaper than the other ones.

Just earlier when I was lining up to take off from Camelback Scion, Kenneth came over to my box and we were talking about my Camry navigation and he said "Man I don't think I would want to spend $1600 on it, I'll use a map instead". My girlfriend didn't point it out at the time, :nails: but on the way back to her house out of no where she went "$1600 huh? Yeah I heard earlier, I thought you told me it was pretty cheap.". Good thing she enjoyed herself alot at the poker run and was in a good mood, or she'd go :gun: on me. :relief:

So next time when you see the guy's significant other right next to him, please don't point out the mods.

Yeah I noticed! It was a bummer that you had to drive AND try to navigation yourself, so it's all good. :P

It was nice to have a navi so I knew where and when to turn ahead of time.

Anyone can talk mods with my wife and I anytime, she hates stock so any mod is a good mod as long as it doesnt cost a ton of money :P .

11-21-2005, 02:02 PM
Do what I did, find something your girlfriend is totally into and she spends lots of money on, then the next time she says something about your mods, just say,"Hun, I will stop spending money on car parts, when you stop spending 500 dollars on purses, I don't care if they ARE limited edition."

It works every time.

LMAO.... That is why I have her hand the part to me when I am putting it on, see that way there isnt any suprises. She knows everything that is on my car. she might even know of stuff that I forgot about.

I tell my girl the suggested retail on the part always first, like the sc "$3200" and when I finally get her "ok with that" I get it allot cheaper or at dealer price saving a few hundred and it makes her happy! "You saved how much sweetie? that is great!!!" hahaha Thank goodness my girl is a gearhead or I would be screwed!

I have an easy solution.

Get your "sig. other" a Scion.. then that way they have thier mods too!
Its just haivng to buy 2x the qty for the mods you want thou.. :P

NoLimitzBuilt
11-21-2005, 04:43 PM
Or buy them a car that cost twice what yours does and then you can buy mods to try and level out the difference.

yeah, i got busted, i accidently left my paypal account open, and it showed transactions for the last month........my wife started peeking around it I assume. and said WoW, what did you buy on the internet for $1500.00? i then quickly suggested we should go to dinner.........most of the time she does not care what i do with my cars, but i think seeing $$$ amounts freaks her out.

It's a lot easier to ask for forgivness, than ask for permission....I've gone through 5 sets of wheels in the last year, if I would have asked first, the answer would have been NO! :lalala:

I have several customers who have cleverly gotten around this. When a large ticket item was required the one friend would buy his cohort in crime the merchandise and give it as a gift. When the significant other says, “what, you take that back”, he says “honey, that would be rude as it was a gift” The significant other not wanting to embarrass the best friends agrees to keep it, and is now obligated to return the favor.

Men, as dumb as we can be, these two thought that the wives have not caught on, at least they thought so.

Oh my god, I totally apologize about the navi system. You know what, when I was walking away from your car I was thinking about how you kind of acted funny when I was asking you that and I didnt catch on.

The whole intake thing doesnt even compete with 1600 dollars for a navi system. I walked away from it without any bloodshed but my predicament was over 85 dollars.

Exactly. She immediately says to me "I cant believe you lied to me". I said "did you ever ask me if I have an intake, no! What happened the first time you asked me? I said yes, I have an intake. So technically I didnt lie, I just didnt tell you until you asked".

Its been cool now though. Ever since I got the car I have had to hide pretty much everything I did to it because she thought modding was a stupid hobby and we have other things we need to spend our money on. (Like what? Weddings, Houses, Dishes...Yeah right) But ever since the poker run, she has been all into it. It was like marriage counseling to benefit the man. So now I have told her about everything I have done to the car, and she doesnt care at all. She now wants to buy herself a tc.

So Calvin, I guess you can say that you just cut off my ball and chain. You may have actually done something for me that I thought no man could do. I think you fixed my girlfriend. So thanks man.

 This thread is funny! It reminds me of what happened the other night. We had some friends over for dinner, and my son asked my friend if he would be getting an Xbox 360. My friend said, "Nah...I'm done with gaming systems. That's why I spent $350 on a top-of-the-line Video card for my computer." All of a sudden, his wife (who he didn't know was listening) says, "You spent how much...on a what?!?" :lalala:

....back when I was in HS I had a 93' Explorer. My mom used to borrow the car pretty often to save gas money from her Chevy big block. After a year of borrowing the car from me she never noticed it had a sub in it. I thought that was pretty slick. Had the amps hid in the interior and the sub took up a cargo side spot. When she found out that I had about 500 into the audio system she freaked out....

...still, a year.

Then 2yrs after being out of the house and in AZ, she came to visit one spring and I picked her up at the airport in my Escort with no front bumper cover on the car because I was still trimming it to clear the front mount intercooler.
....she was clueless until coming up I17 and passing someone and heard the blow-off valve.

My mom didnt know what that sound was the first time she heard my RFL Blow off. all of sudden though, she says " Oh my god arent you gonna stop" I say " what for?"

She says " Didnt you hear that, you just blew your tire out""
