Default pardon my stupid question, anybody in CA with turbo?

I don't know enough about turbo and smog and CARB, but i assume the turbo kits like ZPI and Dezod are not CARB exempt...is that right? i sure hope i'm wrong cus i have to money burning a hole in my pocket for a turbo kit. but i don't want to have a cop harrass me about it if i get pulled over for some reason. i guess the other solution is the S/C and after looking at the number with ZPI's pulleys its more promising but i rather have the cheaper and more powerful turbo if i can.

Turbo is not legal in CA. It removes a cat just like a header would.

damnit...so the only solution for CA people is the S/C...whats the cost of labor to install these from the dealer, assuming i bring the parts in from mcgeorge or trdsparks.

I think that " tylertc " guy is out there isn't he. I remember him posting a LONG time ago talking about his ZPI stage one turbo kit. He had his stage one kit in May!!!

Never mind. I just found a post where he said he was only "300 miles away". My mistake.

i was just quoted $525 from the dealer in berkerly, CA. i would have to leave the car there for a couple of days. does that sound right? and will that entitle me to a free rental? i remember reading that scion will provide a rental if my car have to be in the shop overnight.

Yes there are legal turbos in CA. At least the dealer installed turbos.... My brother has a 05' Jetta GLi 1.8T. His daily driver and nightly racer.

Obviously a factory turbo is legal. We were specifically speaking about the aftermarket turbos currently available for the tC. With as many Audis, EVOs, WRX's and 1.8ts we all see around everyday your comment is pointless and insulting.

Sorry for the misunderstanding man, but in my defense, all you wrote was that turbo is not legal in CA. I figured you were speaking of all turbos, but all in all I didnt mean to be insulting and i get what you were trying to say now.

No problem man..I appreciate your comment. It looked like you were taking may quote out of context in an attempt to make me look stupid....which happens quite a bit around here.

Happy Thanksgiving
