Weird 2006 stock intake question
Okay, I noticed yesterday when I was swapping out my stock filter with a K&N drop-in unit that there was a white, guaze like layer of material that was placed (by the factory) after the air filter in the upper portion of the intake housing.
It's almost like another filter. I would have removed it, but it was riveted into the upper portion of the air filter housing (with plastic rivets), thus telling me Toyota REALLY wanted me to leave it in there.
My question is if anybody else has removed this piece (as I'm sure it causes a bit of resistance) and are there any consequences? I don't want to cause my car to throw codes b/c I ripped the gauze post-filter out.
This is on a 2006 xB 5spd if that makes any difference.
Thanks.

Charcoal filter for the air intake for an engine?
I'm assuming its unnecessary, my reasoning is that since aftermarket intake systems (both CAI or SRI) do NOT require this filter. But I'm not sure if they (the aftermarket filters) compensate for the lack of this filter with an added hose (or something to equalize pressure and NOT set off a sensor).
Anybody remove this element from their 2006 xA/xB with no issue whatsoever.
And if so, did it increase airflow enough to feel a difference (I just want my drop-in K&N to be able to work at its highest potential).
Thanks.

i wondered what that was too lol when I removed my box to install the Injen I went to put the box aside and saw that
I left in it, keeping stock box in case I ever need warranty work i'll put it all back in.
